My Thoughts on Weku

Recently one of my Steemit buddies asked me about my thoughts on Weku. I never really got a chance to reply because HF20 basically shut me down for awhile, but I did get a chance to check it out more in depth. I had heard of it before and didn’t pay too much attention to it at first.

It looks just like a Steemit clone with some fancy web-page descriptions of the project. There seems to be a pretty big team of people involved with the project. The FAQ looks like a direct cut and past job of the Steemit FAQ with some word search and replace done.

Just purely from a content developers limited perspective it would be easy to develop similar content and post it in both areas if you wanted because the learning curve is minimal. I wasn’t really sure about it but tried to make an account and found @lightsplasher was already used. Along with my tag line from Steemit, logo and the content and graphics of one of my posts.

Notice the similarity between Weku – Bowler Foothills Hiking and Steemit – Boulder Foothills Hiking? The nice thing about blockchains is that you can tell immediately which one was published first.

I’ve been using my lightsplasher logo for many years without anyone else using it. I guess it is kind of a vote of confidence that it is kind of, sort of worth something now, LOL. Although I haven’t officially bothered with a copyright notice you don’t really have to. All original creative content is copyright of the person who created it, at the time it is made, unless your working for a business or designate otherwise.

I guess this was just the impetus for me to get off my duff and start my own account there as @litesplasher. See:Litesplasher (I don’t like that name as much, it reminds me of lite yogurt or something, but what the heck)

My referral link is: https://deals.weku.io/pick_account?referral=litesplasher in case anyone is interested - thanks in advance if you do use it.

Investment Potential of Weku

Actually, I have really no hard feelings over the use of my graphics and text, but I would rather they weren’t used in this way without asking or giving credit. It kind of gives a good test as to what type of reaction will happen from it. So far no reply on my email to contact@weku.io

It is interesting to see what kind of community will develop and what things will become priorities. Is this going to become all take and no give?

If everyone operates ethically and collaboratively, there could be a big potential here. New developments, marketing and other hosting could potentially be shared, improving both Weku and Steemit.

One of the difficult things about Steemit is that a lot of the early investors became whales and have a big influence over the system, making smaller accounts difficult to get noticed with. Weku could be another chance of getting things a bit more evenly dispersed - from what I can see votes actually have some value for small accounts at this point. But it is hard to tell how the financial side will be handled and what will happen once the token gets used. The white paper does seem to have a lot of good ideas in it from what I could see from my brief perusal.

But as they say, “The proof is in the pudding.” There does look like some potential in Weku but time will tell. At least starting an account and posting seems fine because I do a lot of that anyway, but I’m still not sure about investing any of my precious ethereum in an ICO.

Lightsplasher’s semi-evil twin looks up after fondling the ethereum coin. “One blockchain to rule them all, my precious, my precious... They can take my ethereum when they pry my cold dead fingers away from my keyboard. MUHAA MUHAHA LOL” (Just kidding, in case anyone’s worried)

Nice! A lot of Steemit folks are starting up new accounts there. I'm interested to see how things work out.

I will be there for you bro..

I hadn't heard of Weku, guess I'll go look into it. Getting my art in front of new people is never a bad idea lol

From a content producer's view it does make sense to get your work out there.

Whoa just created my account, it's almost exactly like Steemit. Kinda too busy to get into it until next week really, but stoked to find out about it way earlier than I found out about Steemit! lol

It could be a real bonus for content producers if it does anything like the growth of Steemit. I'm interested to see how things work out too.

Well see I didnt know someone had taken your name, but I had heard it was happening to some Steemers. I did not want to make a public post, because I was not familiar enough with it to publicly recommend it. So I suggested that you check it out. Dang, wish we had been sooner and could have saved you name. Truly sorry about that.

No worries! It is actually a really good test of how they (meaning the centralized aspect of Weku and community) are going to handle things. If copyright infringement and theft of Steemit account names isn't that much of a priority we could expect that they may operate in a way that is not cooperative. Business reputations and investment are built on a host of such things.

Anyone can call themselves anything, there are a lot of "Tom, Dick and Harry," for example out there. But taking someones reputation and impersonating it along with their work is another thing.

There would be a lot of issues that might possible result - I think we have seen some of the possibilities here.

Very good post. Please visit me on my blog

You made a lot of good points. We will see how it falls. I am interested to see how they put value on the it.

It does seem a little friendlier to the smaller fish. Time will tell.
