PLANTING OUR OWN POPCORN

in #garden8 years ago

Finally, we get to plant and grow again!

Back in Wisconsin, @papa-pepper would make us wait until June, or at least almost June, before we would direct sow certain seeds in the garden. Here in Arkansas though, a lot of people use mid-April as the planting time.

Since it has been so warm though, @papa-pepper said that we could get started slowly, so today we did!

For the first time ever we grew our own popcorn last year. We had "Strawberry Popcorn," "Indian Berries" and one other kind, and we saved some of the seeds to plant again this year.

It was a huge blessing to be able to grow our own last year, harvest it ourselves, and then pop in and cover it in homemade butter too! We will see how the crop this year does, but to get that crop you've got to get it planted.

Hopefully this planting will last, but, worst case scenario we will just have to plant it again in a few weeks. We also planted some of our Chinese Noodle Beans, which did excellent last year too!

Has anyone else out there grown your own Popcorn before? We sure like to!

Here are a few fun gifs from last year!

you gota love the little peppers

You @little-peppers are having fun planting that popcorn -- and you are becoming good gardeners, too! That looks like a good kind of popcorn, too - a kind of strawberry popcorn. The different-colored kernels are nice, too! Happy gardening!

Thank you so much, we really like it. It's great with homemade butter too!

hahaha -- that butter will be good on almost anything, I think! You are a great little human butter churn! :D

I agree Otis, lovable little-peppers for sure!
And I LOVE popcorn!!

Love the popcorn!

I was happy while I'm reading the story. Thanks @little-peppers :)

We are glad that it made you happy!

Wow! This is the first time I see corn that is not yellowish! I want those too for my garden :D

That sounds good, I wonder if we can mail some there or if you will have to get some from elsewhere.

I am not sure this will be allowed because of EU-US food regulations. I will try to have a look around my place to see what I can find.

Grandma and Grandpa will be needing some popcorn after our long car ride when we come to visit. Hopefully, you have a kernal or two left over from last year. We love you.

Oh yes, we can do that! @truconspiracy just made it down today!!!!
