A vivid memory of Shinagawa =/= Eine kurze Erinnerung an Shinagawa👹🍣🎎 Wonderful Japan ENG-GER

Tokyo has something to offer for everyone, and most of all, much more than other cities I know. Even after years, I am still fascinated and attracted by this huge metropolis. Sometimes it seems as if many smaller cities have united to an infinite sea of houses and buildings, just as you know it from other big cities in the world. Unfortunately, in the last few years I haven't been to my favorite city that often, so at the moment all I have left are the many memories and pictures I have stored in my head and on my hard drive. But fortunately, I find quite a bit of fun in looking back and reminiscing for a while.

These memories just brought me back today to Shinagawa, a district located in the south of the Japanese capital. Known to most people only as a transfer hub, Shinagawa is one of the city's most important business centers, and the many skyscrapers make for some very impressive scenery. However, the further you get from Shinagawa station, the more the impressions are about to change.

Tokyo hat von Allem etwas zu bieten, und vor Allem mehr als andere mir bekannte Städte. Auf mich wirkt dieses riesige Metropole auch noch nach Jahren eine gewaltige Faszination und Anziehungskraft aus. Manchmal scheint es, als hätten sich viele kleinere Städte zu einem unendlichen Meer aus Häusern und Gebäude vereint, so wie man es ja auch aus anderen Großstädten der Welt kennt. Leider war ich in den letzten Jahren nicht mehr so oft in meiner Lieblingsstadt und deshalb bleiben mir zur Zeit nur die vielen Erinnerungen und Bilder, die ich in meinem Kopf und auf meiner Festplatte gespeicher habe. Aber glücklicherweise finde ich ziemlich viel Spaß daran, zurückzuschauen und ein wenig in den Erinnerungen zu schwelgen.

Diese Erinnerungen haben mich heute nach Shinagawa zurückgebracht, einen Stadtteil im Süden der japanischen Hauptstadt gelegen. Für die meisten nur als Umsteigebahnhof bekannt, ist Shinagawa eines der wichtigstem Geschäftszentren der Stadt, und die vielen Hochhäuser sorgen zum Teil für eine sehr beeindruckende Kulisse. Je weiter man sich aber vom Bahnhof Shinagawa entfernt, desto mehr ändern sich die Eindrücke, die auf einem warten.

Along the waterfront, there are many residential buildings, many of which are in stark contrast to the shiny glass backdrop that dominated the scene just moments before. And to make the contrast complete, there are also several houseboats bobbing around in the old waterways. Some of them are operated as restaurants, but in other places they also seem to serve residential purposes. At the time when I was walking through the neighborhood, things on the water were still quite relaxed, but I guess this will change in the evening hours and on some boats it will be quite busy.

Entlang der Wasserfront gibt es viele Wohngebäude, von denen sich viele stark von der glänzenden Glaskulisse abheben, welche kurz zuvor noch die Szenerie beherrscht hatte. Und um den Kontrast komplett zu machen, dümpeln in den alten Wasserstraßen auch noch etliche Hausboote herum, welche teilweise als Restaurants betrieben werden, aber an andere Stelle auch Wohnzwecken zu dienen scheinen. Bei meiner damaligen Runde durch das Viertel ging es auf dem Wasser noch recht gemütlich zu, aber gerade in den Abendstunden sollte sich das wohl verändern und auf einigen Booten dürfte es dann ziemlich beschäftigt werden.

As soon as you dive a little into the side streets and start looking around the next corner, you will quickly discover parts of the old, traditional Shinagawa's, which in many places has been preserved until today. As in many other cities in Japan, you often find small hidden shrines that draw you away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and where you could almost forget where you were just a moment ago. Very important oases in the swirling sea of the wild and noisy metropolis.

Sobald man ein wenig in die Nebenstraßen eintaucht und auch mal um die nächste Ecke schaut, entdeckt man auch schnell Teile des alten, traditionellen Shinagawa's, welche sich bis heute an vielen Orten bewahrt hat. Wie in vielen anderen Städten Japans auch, findet man oft kleine versteckte Schreine, welche einem wegziehen von der Hektik und dem Gewusel der großen Stadt und in denen man fast vergessen könnte, wo man gerade eben erst war. Ganz wichtige Oasen im brodelnden Meer der wilden und lauten Metropole.

Hopefully I'll make it to Tokyo again next year. Actually, I can't wait to walk around my favorite city and follow my nose. Exploring new territory has always been appealing to me, and Tokyo has a lot of it to offer. Unfortunately, my time is never enough to do all the many round I'd like to walk. But with a little luck, maybe one day I can pick up where I left off a while ago.

Hoffentlich schaffe ich es im nächsten Jahr mal wieder nach Tokyo. Eigentlich kann ich es gar nicht erwarten, mal wieder eine Runde durch meine Lieblingsstadt zu laufen und dabei einfach meiner Nase zu folgen. Neuland zu erkunden hat mich schon immer gereizt, und in Tokyo gibt es davon noch eine ganze Menge. Leider reicht meine Zeit nie aus, um all die vielen Runden zu schaffen, die ich gerne laufen möchte. Aber mit ein wenig Glück kann ich vielleicht eines Tage wieder dort fortsetzen, wo ich einmal aufgehört habe.
