My Neighborhood Watch #65 - Reporting Events Around us

With great pride, honour and deep respect, today I witnessed the induction and oath taking ceremony of my senior colleagues into the noble profession that is Radiography, today. It took them years of hard work, determination and passion to get to this point and this was no easy feat.

This momentous occasion that we witnessed today signified their transition from students to skilled professionals who are fully equipped to serve humanity. When we first got the invitation flyer, we were especially happy for them because it took months to finally fix their induction.

I was scrolling from status to status of some of my senior chiefs who I knew to see if they made their flyer and some of them did which was nice and it was such a nostalgic moment for us because we one day dream to walk down the path to becoming a licensed Radiographer too.

The event was slated to start by 10am today and since we're already used to this African time format of events not starting at the exact time, we delayed a bit. All we thought was "it's Nigeria, they won't start on time. To our greatest surprise, on reaching there by 11am, our HOD took matters in his hands and showed us that 10 meant 10.

They had gone far and taken the Radiographers oath which was the main thing that carried me there. Before I proceed with my reporting, the Radiographers oath or code of conduct is a public declaration to be sworn by all graduating student Radiographers that they are ready and willing to give their selfless service to the service of humanity and that they would uphold all professional standards regarding their profession, keeping in mind the confidentiality that exists between the patient and the Radiographer.

Every graduating student is expected to stand with their palms raised and then they start by saying "I, (Name) recognise and accept my role as a Radiographer...

This has always been a nostalgic moment from previous inductions I've been to and missing this one this time around was a bit annoying. But looking at the bright side, I came in time for the presentation of awards and my friend that was also inducting happened to be the overall best graduating student of his set.

His nickname is Cranium as known by all which also means "Brain box". I guess you see how the awards were handed to him.

My senior colleague and friend, Cranium got over 10 awards, cash prizes and sponsorships from the Vice chancellor, Dean of medical college, President of Association of Radiographers, HOD, etc. He didn't bother going back to his seat after collecting one award because they'd just call him back.

I clapped till my hands was sore. After the presentation of awards, I got hungry and left with my friend to get something to eat. When I came back, they were already snapping pictures and why would I come for this event without taking pictures with the best graduating student and collecting their souvenirs?

It was a hassle trying to take pictures with them because happy family members and relatives had to take their turn first but I was finally able to do it.

As for the item 6, which is the reception venue, I and my friends got hint of 2 reception venues and so we went to one first. This one was of one of our chiefs that founded a hub which hosted tutorials to guide us in any exams. We congratulated him, took pictures with him and we were given something to eat. After that, we thanked him and left for the second venue so we would beat time.

When we got there, we saw our classmates too. That was the venue of the best graduating student and his friends. It has a very nice ambience and the food was really good. We enjoyed ourselves and extra drinks were ordered for us.

My friend came afterwards and we went home together. It was such a nostalgic moment to watch my seniors as they took a promise to uphold the highest standards of excellence, integrity and care contributing to shaping the future of healthcare delivery.

I was inspired and motivated to push through my journey until I take that oath like they did today. I'm at the final lap of my journey and i have seen that it's not as easy as my seniors made it look like. They knew it wasn't easy, yet they thrived. I and my friends too will thrive.

I really enjoyed myself today. After my immediate seniors next induction, guess whose own it'll be next? I invite @wakeupkitty, @ruthjoe and @patjewell
