The sea otter, is unique and beautiful. That is why I decide to share with you some fascinating qualities about this species that I liked.
The Mustelidae family comprises 7 genera of otters, with a total of 13 species.
Some, such as the sea otter (Enhydra lutris), the spotted otter (Hydrictis masculicollis), the smooth otter (Lutrogale pespicillata) and the giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), are different and unique species in their own genus.
These vertebrates in their entirety are adapted to aquatic and terrestrial life, but only one in particular swims merrily through the cold waters of the North Pacific. It is the sea otter (Enhydra lutris).
While swimming on its back, the otter often carries a stone on its chest, this rock is used to break the hard mother-of-pearl shell that protects the clams, in this way it extracts the mollusk and eats it, its diet is usually based on sea urchins of sea, mussels, crustaceans, crab, octopus and some fish. In the same way that it transports the stone they do it with their young.
The otter seems to be an intelligent animal. So that the waves do not carry it, it becomes entangled in giant seaweeds that grow near the coast, to stay in the same place without being swept away by the current, like the anchored boats.

This beautiful specimen is active during the day, spends most of its life in the water, also the sexual act is performed in the water, but usually they are aggressive in the middle of mating.
Although they are small, weigh between 14 and 45 kg, outnumbering the giant otter that only reaches 40 kg.
Thanks to its muscular tail and back legs suitable for swimming, this furry can swim and reach speeds of up to 9 km / h.
Threats.
It has several predators, but its biggest fear is another very intelligent mammal, I'm talking about the killer whale, known as the killer whale. Its predator by nature.
These mustachioed do not have a layer of fat thick enough to withstand the cold, they maintain body heat thanks to their abundant waterproof layer of hair. This quality makes it different from other mammals.

What a beautiful animal! I find striking the fact that they carry a rock in their chest to break the shell that protects the clams and thus feed. There is no doubt that animals are amazing creatures!
