Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO world heritage listed site and should be a must on anyone's bucket list of places to visit. It is only 161km east of Hanoi along reasonable roads. We were to spend overnight on a smallish boat that was just right for the size of our group of 12. The bay features thousands of limestone isles in various shapes and sizes, with some being hollow forming some magnificent cave systems.

After navigating our way through the other water traffic and dodging the myriad of small island outcrops, we dropped anchor for the night and set about soaking in all of the phenomenal scenery of our 360-degree viewpoint. It did not matter in which direction you gazed, something beautiful was in your vision at all times.

Now that we were settled, it was time to do some serious camera snapping. As the vista was so expansive, a single shot could not capture the scene properly, so I had to resort to multiple photographs in order to stitch them together when I got home. As I did not bring a tripod, these panoramas below are all handheld, taken from the deck of a gently rocking boat. I am quite pleased with how they came out and if you click on the images, I think they add to the experience. Enjoy

Those islands look like they were from a movie, a beautiful landscape, did you spend the night on the boat?

I hope one day to have the fortune to visit those landscapes. In my province (Guayana-Venezuela) is the largest waterfall in the world (El Salto Angel). I hope to fulfill these dreams one day

We spent the night on the boat - got some nice evening shots
