SEC S20W1/ Painting like a child

My children ( son and daghter ) are in a full-day school, which means I don't get to spend much time with them daily. When they come home from school, they are usually tired and spend some time watching TV, then have dinner and go to sleep because they have to go to school again the next morning.

My son, Manzoor Elahi, is 13 years old and in the 5th standard. He is very understanding and often sees me painting. He has expressed his desire to learn painting a few times, but I ignore it. but he spend mostly making drawing on sunday. I want to thank the @anailuj1992 for organizing the contest "painting like a child" because it allowed me to involve my child in painting activity.

Yesterday, when my children came back from school, I told my son that we would paint together. He was very happy to hear that. But we had limited time as it was getting dark and we only had two hours left. Since we don't have proper lighting arrangements at home, we set up our painting supplies on the floor outside the room so that we could take good pictures. I asked my son what he wanted to paint, and he said he would paint the moon and a tree. I was excited and surprised when he said he know how to paint a little because he had seen videos on TV. He was looking at my colors and was excited to start painting.

Therefore, I adjusted a paper for painting and provided him with all my colors and other painting tools. I asked him which colors he would use, and he had a choice between watercolors, pencil colors, and oil pastels. He looked at the colors for a while and then chose oil pastels because they are like chalk and have 48 colors. You can judge his happiness by looking at the picture above.

He said , i want to draw a circle, and then he got up and went to the kitchen to get a round container and used a pencil to draw a circle. I was amazed at my son's creative abilities at that moment because he quickly drew a large circle with the help of a household item.

Then, after drawing a circle, he first picked up the black color and started filling it in from the top of the paper. I guided him, saying, 'Now, move from dark to light colors.' So, he filled in black, then navy blue, then dark blue, and finally light blue. He was a bit hesitant at first, but I reassured him, 'Don't worry, it's okay if you make a mistake, it can be fixed. Paint freely!' Then, he confidently filled the entire page (outside the circle) with color. In the same way, at the bottom of the page, black, dark green, and light green colors he filled in, on which I created grass shapes in the form of lines.

Next, I told him to blend the colors, and he said, 'I've seen you mix colors before.' And then, with his small fingers, he started blending the colors. However, due to the large size of the page, he got a bit tired, so I helped blend the remaining colors.

Then, my son started filling through the center of the circle with black and then grey color, so I asked him what it was. He told me its a mountain and there would be trees on it. Time was passing quickly, and it was getting dark. I helped by mixing a light gray color into the shape of mountain and then i drew the tree shape, which my son filled in with black color.

I was taking pictures with my smartphone while my son was busy in coloring. And the painting was almost in its final stages. My son asked me, 'Papa, how do we make leaves on the tree?' So I hold his hand and made leaves with his own hands, guiding him so that next time he could do it himself. This was to teach him so that he could do it independently. In this way, we finally completed the painting before sunset (darkness).

When the painting was complete, my wife took a picture of us with the painting. And then, I saved all the stages of this painting in an animation, which you can see below. And along with that, the final result of the painting is also framed.

Final Look of Our Painting

I would like to say that the time for this painting was certainly short. But during this time, we were so happy, laughed so much, and enjoyed this activity so much that I cannot express all these feelings in words because it was an amazing time.

My son is overjoyed. And I have told him that if he focuses on his studies, I will teach him all the tricks to make beautiful paintings. This activity involved not just me and my son, but my entire family - my wife, my younger son Areeb, my younger daughter Wareesha, and my respected mother. We all spent these two hours in a very enjoyable way.
