Today, I visited Baldah Garden, located in Wari, the capital of Dhaka. Baldah Garden is a very old garden. When reviewing the history of Baldah Garden, it is known that naturalist, social worker, and poet Narendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury was the landlord of Baldah Estate. He established the garden on his own property in 1909.
Chowdhury died in 1943. Until his death, he passionately enriched the garden with rare plant species from around the world. After the creation of Bangladesh in 1971, the Forest Department of the new government took over its responsibility. Most of its past glory has been restored by modernizing the civic amenities inside the garden.
