The Arhats in the Cold Weather, in the National Museum in Korea

in #museum6 years ago

The mason carving 500 stone arhats looked like to show the various form in seeking the way to the enlightenment.

In this post, I collected the arhats in the cold weather.
Korea was written in history book as a very cold country by the influence by the Siberian wind.

I found out lots of arhats putting on a blanket looking like thing. I supposed the mason tried to show the ceaseless thriving for finding a way to the Nirvana regardless of the hard weather.

If you look at those arhats carefully, you could find out the status in mind of the arhats. Some looked very difficult, some were happy regardless of the cold weather.

Peaceful arhat

Every thing you face in the present could be changed by your spiritual attitude. In my though, that’s the lesson what Buddha really wanted to teach for us. In my guess, the mason wanted to express the various reactions against the cold weather.

@slowwalker, Firstly I want to give big thanks to you because you collected more Arhats sculptures under the cold weather for showing steemians.. We're lucky to follow you. I first time see Arhat putting on a blanket. It's different thing than Sri Lanka. Probably reason could be Korea cold country. Sri Lanka is a hot weather Island. These Arhats faces showing various expressions also. Peaceful Arhat inspiring me.

So interesting. Thanks for sharing. We'll only know these things through the people who share them.

Nice to see such variety, I believe in Korea winter must be also cold and in the past having no heating people got only the possibility to get warm clothes or blankets to protect themselves. Such variety of different facial expressions, like the faces of humans. But then of course the nature can do it but that human master created such various and different expressions.

Beautiful and another great display of Korean ancient history. In fact it has me getting excited as I'm planning on heading down to Peru in August. They have some incredible museums housing stuff from the ancient Inca civilization. Have you ever been to South America? It's a whole other world compared to Asia.

Wishing you the very best,

From Guayaquil Ecuador -Dan

I heard there was a common basis between Asiatic and South American culture from historian.
I wish you a great trip to Peru

Thanks Mr Walker! Always a pleasure corresponding with you :)
