Para esta edición 174, les traigo otra gran pintora del siglo XIX. Se trata de María Katarina Wiik:

Esta distinguida pintora nació el 3 de agosto del año 1853 en Helsinki. Cursó sus estudios básicos en la escuela estatal para mujeres en Finlandia.

Vio sus primeras clases de dibujo con el artista plástico Adolf von Becker. Luego, por insistencia de sus familiares, estudió en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Helsinki, entre los años 1874 y 1875.

Viajó a París para estudiar en la Academia Julian, que era la única que permitía a las mujeres estudiar pintura.

En el año 1880 debutó en el Salón de París y en el año 1900 ganó una Medalla de Bronce en la Exposición Universal de París.

Viajó a Inglaterra junto a su amiga, la pintora, Helene Schjerfbeck, y allá vivieron en St. Ives (Cornualles).

Wiik falleció el 19 de junio de 1928 en Helsinki, a los 74 años.

For this 174th edition, I bring you another great 19th-century painter. This is María Katarina Wiik:

This distinguished painter was born on August 3, 1853, in Helsinki. She completed her basic studies at the state school for women in Finland.

She had her first drawing classes with the artist Adolf von Becker. Later, at the insistence of her family, she studied at the Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts between 1874 and 1875.

She traveled to Paris to study at the Académie Julian, which was the only one that allowed women to study painting.

In 1880, she debuted at the Paris Salon, and in 1900, she won a Bronze Medal at the Universal Exposition in Paris.
