Watering system for plants when you are on holiday
Hello dear Steemians,
Today is my post about our green friends at home, if you also like us have some plants you know what I am talking about. The plants in pots they give our home a feeling of life, filling empty spaces but also the whole atmosphere of our home is different.
During last year the number of our plants increased and all of them look healthy and growing nicely.
The only difficult time is when people have holidays and have to leave for few weeks, sometimes people ask their neighbours to water the plants but it is not really good to use the kindness of your neighbours and for them maybe one day they are also away at the same time like you.
In summer we usually away for about four weeks therefore, last summer @myskye decided to search if there is any automatic watering system and we found one that we used in summer and that worked good.
Here how it looks like you can program the little machine and set up how long and how often the pump should work. The plants we have do not need much water therefore we used a smaller water bowl. The tube then has many little extension tubes that you then place into the soil of pots. Of course in order to check if that everything will work of not we have done a dummy run and it did work without any problem.
The photos are done after our arrival, 2 weeks on automatic watering system and you can see all the plants look great, it was not too much water but also not little.

Interesting. I love plants but I find it really hard to take care of them properly, especially the watering schedule. Getting an automatic device like this could be a life savior for me and my plants even if I'm at home.
I can imagine that was the same feeling we had before, we tried many different things and in summer even moved the plants outside but then snails have eaten some of the juicy leaves of our plants. In winter it was OK to water them once but then we were leaving only for 2 weeks so the plants survived.
This system we tried in summer, that time we had young red pepper plants and they usually like a lot of water so we had a big water reservoir and it worked. This time the plants do not require much water but the system worked very well. So definitely you also can try :)
Greetings friend, wonderful entry! I understand perfectly why I love plants and always want to see them healthy in my home. It is always a concern to leave them alone when we go on a trip, but this mechanism is made just for those cases. I loved it, it's good that the pump can even be programmed for the frequency of the risk

Thank you Alessandra, yes, we were also worried if everything will work or not and first thing we did when entered home was to check on the plants and water reservoir, but everything was nice and green and even some of plants had new green leave so that was a great surprise. We definitely will use it again next time :)

Yes, actually the plants look better than when we were watering ourself, maybe hte timing or certain time and amount make its trick :)
I am watering my indoor plants every 15 days. This method might make a difference, as they are looking better...Cheers :)

Normally, we have always tried to solve this in a decentralised way: too many tubs spread too widely over the area and floors. Individual bottles that deliver droplet injections into the soil. Works great too.
Yes, individual bottle into the pots also a decision, if it works at the end then it is great. I always feel sad when my plants do not survive the time when we are on holiday but for now the first attempts showed good results :)

Hi @beautiful12, yest hte system is good, only we noticed that the little joints between the tubes become with the time a bit loose, so we need to think how we can replace them next time :)

Hi @pousinha yes, the plants look very good, after four weeks it is easy to see how much they are grown. Yes, for cactus plants on windowsill we did not use watering, it was enough to water them before and after our arrival. The little toy there is one of the oldest toy that my hubby had as a child, so we found it among old stuff and decided to keep on windowsill rather than in old box :)
