Real Life Captured #67: Guayaquil Ecuador! Part Six (13 photos)
Hey there my Steemit Friends. Here we are in Guayaquil Ecuador! We're not in Kansas anymore! I sure hope you've got a little Spanish under your belt on your next visit to this city as there are not too many people around able to help you in English if you get lost.
Fortunately I'm fluent after two years of traveling this country with my Ecuadorian girlfriend at the time. It was "Hola, buenas dias" in the morning and "Descansa, buenas noche mi amor" before bed. That is probably the best way to learn a language. Date someone that doesn't speak your native tongue!
That's exactly what I ended up doing. Just kind of happened. Before I knew it I was so fluent in Spanish I started forgetting my English! I was speaking Spanish all day everyday. I sometimes wouldn't even speak English for a week at at time!
Long story short things fell apart with the misses. Probably can blame it on "cultural differences". But at least I've retained my Spanish. I had it so drilled into my head that even after almost a year of not using it at all I'm still totally fluent to the point where the locals are impressed.
It sure has come in handy since I've been back in South America! A real asset when maneuvering through this part of the world. Now let's take a final look at the Real Life Captured in Guayaquil Ecuador!

Thanks for sharing some more great real life shots with us all @world-travel-pro ! its cool you can speak spanish so good !! ✌💕😀

Thank you Karen. I never thought I'd be able to learn a second language. It was my worst subject in school. But after being immersed in it for so long I got down pretty well. It's certainly the best way to learn. Thanks again for everything. Looking forward to being back on the mainland with better internet. Have a great day! -Dan
Thats cool ! your welcome !😊
That's so cool! I wish I spoke fluent Spanish! I took it in high school and actually really enjoyed it but it's been a few years. I'll definitely take a few courses before heading to South America! :-)
I took spanish for 6 years in public school and hated every minute and almost failed it one year. I forgot everything and it was over 10 years later until I came to Ecuador. Totally different experience learning it through cultural immersion. 100% better way to learn a language. I'd recommend not even taking a course. Just making some friends and sharing languages over a several month period.
Huh, that's actually an interesting way of looking at it!! Thanks for the advice 😁
You're welcome Jose!
