Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam is a dam across the Mahi river it is situated 16km from Banswara town in Banswara district Rajathan, India the dam was constructed between 1972 and 1983 for the purpose of hydroelectric power generation nd water supply it is the second largest dam in Rajasthan it is named after Jahmnala Bajaj.
Mahi is a river in western India it rises in Madhya Pradesh and flowing through the Vagad region of Rajasthan enter Gujarat and flows into the Arabian Sea.Mahi river is worshipped by a lot of people and has a lot of temples and places of worship along its shore.Mahisagar is popular due to vastness of the river mahi bajaj sagar dam is a dam across the mahi river.
The dam was constructed between 1972 and 1983 for the purpose of hydroelectric power generation and water supply it is the second largest dam in Rajasthan. After some years it is named as Sri Jamnala Bajaj.Mahi river has many crocodiles and turtles and there are large numbers of islands within the catchment area of the dam,for that Banswara also called " City of Hundred Islands " the dam is easily seen by road. The dam has an installed capacity of 140MW.
**History of Mahi Dam**
The Mahi Bajaj Sagar project was presented in the later half of sixities. The foundation stone of this ambitious multipurpose inter-state project was laid by the Finance Minister. Government of India late Sri Morrarji Desai in the years 1960. The project name was renowned freedom fighter and the National leader Late Jamnalal Bajaj. The Mahi river is originaly start from Sardarpura village of dhar district in Madhya Pradesh,and flows through M.P Rajasthan and Gujrat state. The Mahi river basin is the third largest among fiteen well difined river basins of Rajasthan state for water potential point of view. The major contribution of Mahi rivers are rivers Erav, Chap, Nori, Anas, Jakham etc. The planning commission and central water and power commission was approved by CCA in the year 1971. The major contrstrucion activities stated in the year 1972 and the project was dedicated to nation by the Hon'ble Prime Minister late Smt. Indra Gandhi on 1.11983.
