Important rules to prevent the accidents in the house

Safety is mandatory in our house, school and community. It is not enough to have knowledge about safety rules but one should use this knowledge to develop safety habits. One should practice safety rules not only for one’s own protection but also for the protection of others. Accidents do not just happen. They are caused by many factors that can be prevented. Lack of knowledge, indifference, carelessness, and taking risk are some of the causes. Hence, safety begins with an individual. An alert person can prevent accident, while an indifferent and tired person cannot avoid it. Every one of us needs to take time, make an effort, and develop alertness in order to reduce the danger of accidents.

Rules to Prevention

A large number of accidents occur in homes such as falls, fire, suffocation, cuts, injuries and poisoning. Among very small children have accidents mainly lack of knowledge, experience and skills. In older group carelessness may be the cause. In very old person, slow-reaction, poor sense organ may be the causes of accidents. Poisoning occur mostly very young children, fall accidents occur children and old people and fire accidents occur all age group. In the following I have written some rules to prevent the falls accidents in the house.

i) Keep things in their proper places after use.

ii) It is essential that the floor should be kept dry and clean especially in the kitchen.

iii) Unwanted furniture or any other discarded items should be properly stored or disposed of.

iv) Staircases should be kept well-lighted at night or in darkness. Must have hand rills for proper grip.

v) Any articles such as broom, toys, and boxes should never be kept at staircases.

vi) When sleeping everyone should a torch by the besides in case of need to get up in the night.

Fires can causes damage to life and property. Fire accidents are mostly caused by carelessness. People are in hurry and neglect to take necessary prevention of fires. The following some rules o prevents fire accidents.

(i) Matchboxes, burning stoves, open fire and electrical gadgets should be kept out of reach of children.
(ii) Window and door curtains should not be allowed to blow over the flame.
(iii) Kerosene, petrol, diesel and turpentine oil are highly inflammable and if stored in the house should have proper air-tight containers.

(iv) No one should smoke while in bed.

(v) Main causes of fire accident are electricity. We should be very careful when use electricity. Faulty electrical appliances and equipment must be properly handle and repaired promptly.

(vi) Short circuiting in electric wires may also start a fire.

Poisoning is a leading cause of accidental death. Most victims of poison accidents are children between two to five years of age. These accidents occur as a result of the carelessness of the adults in the home. Following some rules of prevent poisoning accidents

  1. All medicine and household cleaners should be well out of reach of children.

  2. All poisonous drugs should be kept away from other medicines preferably under lock and key.

  3. No drugs should be used after its expiry date is over.

  4. Older children should be taught the hazard of poisoning.

Suffocation is one of the accident occur in the home in case of younger children. So the adults of the home should be plastic bag when empty of their content stored out of reach of younger children. Coins dried peas, seeds etc. should not be within reach of children in case they swallow them and get choked. These are some rules to prevent accidents in the home.
