Progress and Adaptability

I’ve been struggling with winter a bit lately. It’s not very cold yet, and we don’t have snow where I live (yet), but it’s dark. And it’s rainy. And my body is struggling to adjust to something, or a number of things.

Getting out of bed early and snapping to attention isn’t as easy as it was one or two or three months ago. Feeling full and satiated throughout the day isn’t as easy either. Lately, I’ve become hungrier, and more tired as well. Part of me thinks it could be my body adjusting to this new weight. Part of me thinks it just as something to do with the season. Nevertheless, hungry or not, tired or not, waking up early or not, I’m still finding the time and the ways to get my workouts in.

As I do so, I find more and more that I’m aware of the boundaries that I’ve broken this year and the one’s that I’m moving past. Each day, it seems, I’m reminded of a time not too long ago when I couldn’t do what I’m doing now. Every run I take I pass a point where I used to stop and walk, where I used to take a pause, where I used to call it quits. These days, I just keep going.

Maybe it has something to do with the season. Maybe it has something to do with me nearly completing a full year of training. I don’t know, but recently, despite struggling, the thing I find myself most aware of is my progress.

And it feels good.

Congratulations! The thing I found was that no matter how I felt, if I kept going, it gave me another day to count.

It must be the weather and I actually believe for me, it is my new weight that makes me feel like I need to ear more. Now that does not make sense, but, I feel hungry all the time, so it could be what I am eating or NOT eating.

Winter has always been a struggle, but, it sounds like you are pushing through it. I applaud you and your efforts!

Have an awesome day!

What we eat and don’t eat could make a big difference. That’s a good point. Lately, at lunchtime, especially, I’ve been wanting something heavy and starchy, something satisfying. Instead, I’ve been eating mostly salads for lunch. Maybe my body wants to fatten up a little for winter, which is natural, but I want it too slim down.

Thanks for the encouragement! I’m off to bed.

Do you add protein? It can make a huge difference.

Goodnight!

Sorry. I’m a week behind. Sometimes I have protein in my salads, sometimes I don’t. It depends on what my wife prepares for me. She’s in charge of lunches in our house. I get plenty of protein with dinner. I think the cold just has me craving heavier food lately.

Winter is always a hard time for me. That is one reason I want to go south. The cold, ice, and snow make it hard to get motivated to go out. You are doing great!

Yeah, it changes everything, that’s for sure. Once it snows, I tend to like it, but without snow, it’s just torture: cold, icy rain, darkness, slush. Yuck!

Of course, where you are, it gets much colder, so that’s even more of a challenge.

Sounds good! Hurrayyyy...!!
Probably the cold makes one hungrier (I think!) I was going to suggest slowing down and giving yourself a break for this season, but as I read on, it seems you're doing fine... and getting better even!

Keep it up... we (inactive, couch potatoes...) are behind you... :)

Thanks for stopping by. I’m keeping at it. My routine is just changing with the season. I’d like to keep my morning routine going, but I’ve been losing motivation day by day. It’s the cold and the dark. I’m sure I’ll pull myself out of this morning funk sooner or later, though. In the meantime, I’ve been shifting my exercise time to evenings and nights.

Happy to check in! :)
Sounds good... the evening schedule - hope it works out!

Excellent progress! I struggle on eating this time of year too! I added turkey sticks while I'm at work . The extra protein helped a little. Happy almost training year anniversary too!

Thanks for the almost anniversary well wishes. It’s very exciting to be closing in on the one year mark. This is the first time in my life I’ve carried all the way through with something like this. It has been a very transformational experience.

As for turkey sticks, I’ll have to try something like that. My vice is chocolate covered almonds. They don’t quite give me what I need though;-)

Delicious! I like chocolate covered almonds too but they make me crave more!

Small packages are the solution:)

Those look incredible!

They’re my Achilles’ heel.
