My Actifit Report Card: February 27 2026

As I set off early in the morning, the sunlight was just beginning to break over the hills, casting a golden hue on the dew-covered grass. The air was fresh and filled with the sweet scent of wildflowers. Along the way, I passed by ancient chalk cliffs, particularly at the Seven Sisters, which were breathtaking. The contrast of the white cliffs against the deep blue sea is something out of a painting.
I also encountered several charming villages, like Alfriston, with its historic buildings and quaint tea shops. I couldn't resist stopping at a local café for a slice of homemade scone and a cup of tea. While there, I chatted with some lovely locals who shared stories about the area, including how Alfriston dates back to the 13th century and is known for its picturesque beauty.
As I continued my walk, I met a fellow hiker named Tom, who was also exploring the South Downs. We bonded over our love of history and hiking – he was particularly interested in the World War II history of the area, given its strategic importance. We exchanged tips on other trails and shared a few ghost stories associated with some of the local landmarks, like Firle Beacon, which is said to be haunted!
Overall, the walk was not just about the scenery, but also about the connections made along the way, whether with nature, history, or fellow travelers. It’s experiences like these that remind me why I love exploring my country—it’s never just a walk; it’s a journey through time and community.
