I disagree that online play is a cause for addiction. Multiplayer is similar to playing sports with other people. Football (or soccer if you're american) doesn't cause addiction. What is more addictive now is the real-world value incentive added to games, via in-app purchases. And with the advent of lootboxes, videogames are glorified gambling with a theme.
