Ohai, Its Shoogie! This will be my first Christmas in Florida since moving from Ohio. I can’t tell you how bizarre it is seeing sand in December instead of snow! If you’ve never spent time here during the holidays, you’d be shocked at how seriously festive Floridians can be.. I guess its not difficult when the house of mouse is in your backyard.

With Christmas just days away, my husband and I decided to soak up some Disney holiday magic and take you along for the experience. It wouldn't be Christmas without gingerbread, so we're off to get some!

We arrived at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort, a stunning victorian themed hotel and spa. During the holiday season, visitors flood through to catch a glimpse of Disney's massive life-size gingerbread house!

The entrance is decorated beautifully, draped with heavy garlands each adorned with bows, bells and bobbles.

Upon entering the Grand Floridian Resort, you can't help but be taken by the opulence and level of detail. I've stayed at a few Disney resorts and no other can compare to the Grands decadence... it's incredibly clean, sparkly and dripping with decor from floor to ceiling. It's even got a people sized bird cage there on the left!.. for reasons.

This festive behemoth stands over three stories tall and is packed with some of the most dazzling ornaments I've ever seen. The tree is so large, I was unable to fit it in a photo without bending a knee. Enough about that, we're here for gingerbread!.. cmon.

Its not enough to simply look at a massive gingerbread house, you need to behold the recipe that made it all possible. Does anyone know where I can find "Disney Magic and Pixie Dust"?.. I'll try Amazon.

2017 marks the 19th anniversary for the famous Grand Floridian gingerbread house. Each year Disney's pastry team spends over 400 hours baking the gingerbread shingles and well over 160 hours constructing the house including applying decorations. The aroma produced by the cookie creation is delicious and yes, it is hard to resist taking a big bite.

With the crowd feverishly fighting for photo ops, we snuck off to the side where you can see even more tiny details.

Above is another shot of the side, this time a little closer! Its here you catch a glimpse of our real purpose here today.. the sweet treats!

We wandered around taking photos for about a half hour, it wasn't until we walked into "The Bake Shop" line that smoke started billowing out of the chimney. If I had to guess, that plume of fog contains the same sweet scent they're known to pump from vents on Magic Kingdom's Main Street! This yummy fragrance only fueled my sugar cravings.

If you walk behind the gingerbread house you'll see that theres actually a sweet shop inside. Out of a large window cheerfully dressed cast members sell everything from house shingles to gingerbread Mickeys.

Floridian13.jpg

The line moved so quickly that I was pretty overwhelmed with gingerbread options...

Floridian3.jpg

Success! We ended up compromising on a chocolate dipped gingerbread shingle that was just under ten bucks. I should have taken a few photos of the shingle, but alas... I was hungry! If I had to rate the cookie, i'd give it a solid 3.5/5, mostly on the grounds that it was more bread than cookie and contained Anise (yuck!).

On our way out, I managed to capture a few more photos.. I couldn't resist! This wreath caught my eye, it's hung at the Garden View Tea Room entrance and has a dainty flower motif.

Of all places to find a touch of Disney charm, here Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast looks on cheerfully. Look down or you might miss her!
