Impala, Mongooses and Alien flowers!
We met up with some friends at a small resort for the weekend.
This was the view from our porch
We had a whole herd of Impala lounging on our chalet’s lawn. They would wander off during the day and return sundown to our lawn again. Impala is a medium sized antelope, common to Eastern / Southern Africa that can jump up to 3 meters high.
We also had these little visitors – a whole Mongoose family. Mongooses are well known for their ability to fight and kill venomous snakes, particularly cobras.
They mainly eat insects, crabs, earthworms, lizards, birds, rodents, eggs and carrion. They are very curious little creatures and came as close as they could to check the humans out!
One followed us all the way to the porch and put on his best little beggar face to try and get us into giving him food. These mongooses live freely on the campsite where we stayed and are very used to people, but they are still wild animals that should not be touched – unless you want to sustain a vicious bite. Always respect the fact that wild animals are wild and can never be truly domesticated.

Then we came across these alien-like flowers.

I have been opportuned to catch a glimpse of the Impala on a game reserve in Limpopo South Africa they are such a site to behold.
The mongoose I have not seen and not sure if they are in SA but I agree with you they are cute...
Now those flowers are such a beauty but never seen such as well.

Yes they are gorgeous creatures! So graceful. They say the habitat of the Mongoose is mainland Africa and Eurasia but I know them from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga - where they lived on our lawn. It makes sense that they lived there because the area was full of Black Mambas - and Mongoose feed on venomous snakes.
The flowers blow my mind! I'm going to try and find out what they are.
