"Contest: Leukemia".
Hello Steemians, it's a pleasure to be part of this contest, particularly with the topic of leukemia, a disease that has a negative impact on the bone marrow. With my article, I confidently present my views on leukemia to you all.
Leukemia is known to be a disease that affects the blood and bone marrow, causing the bone marrow not to have the resources to produce healthy blood cells, this disease is characterized by a sudden increase in the amount of white blood cells, which are really necessary in combating of anti bacteria.
Leukemia has several types and there are;
Chronic leukemia: This is a kind of leukemia that can slow down its effect with time, but very deadly.
Acute leukemia: This is the type of leukemia that develops very fast and can cause complications if not properly treated.
CAUSES OF LEUKEMIA
Leukemia is is disease that a many causes and not explaining its causes which talking about would make the article incomplete, so here are the causes.
Genetic mutation: This is when an individual's DNA is altered or changes due to some life procedures, usually passed down from their parents or previous generations.
Chemical exposure: When we tend to get exposed to certain chemicals, there is a lot of tendency that we can get infected with leukemia.
Radiation exposure: When there is a high level of radiation the risk of contracting leukemia becomes high.
Leukemia symptoms usually vary depending on the kind of leukemia and the means through which it progresses, the common symptoms of leukemia are;
Fatigue: This is the feeling of weakness and getting tired instantaneously.
Infections: Some infections are capable of causing leukemia.
weight loss: when the bone marrow begins to lose the ability to create healthy blood cells, there will suddenly be unexplained weight loss.
Joint or bone pain: This is when the hinge, ball and socket, and pivot joints begin to feel severe pain.
Pale skin: leukemia will definitely cause anemia which will lead to pale skin, this is a symptom that you possess but leukemia or anemia.
The treatment for the disease leukemia can vary especially because of age, type, and the patient's overall health. The main the is that some are curable while others can't be cured due to the unavailable cure created by scientists.
The treatable types of leukemia are;
Acute Myeloid leukemia (AML): This is one of the types of leukemia that can be treated through chemotherapy, targeted therapy and also making use of stem cell transplantation.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL): This is curable making use of stem cell transplantation and chemotherapy as well as targeted therapy.
Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML): This is a type of leukemia that is treated by targeted therapy, known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia CLL): this is treated using immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy.
FACTORS WHICH AFFECT TREATMENT OUTCOME
Types of leukemia: Different types of leukemia usually respond with a different tone or manner, thereby determining if it can be cured or not.
Overall health: Patients with health conditions that can seem really bad are capable of facing severe challenges while getting treatment.
Age: In the case of leukemia and like most diseases, the younger you are the better for you, because you have a great chance of successful treatment because of of proper functioning organs.
There are several ways by which leukemia can be controlled and likewise prevented, but not that there are not available guaranteed ways to prevent this illness.
CHANGE OF LIFESTYLE
Healthy weight: We are expected to ensure that we maintain a healthy weight at all times, because obesity can cause us to easily get infected with leukemia.
Avoid tobacco: The lifestyle of incorporating smoking into our daily habits is not encouraging at all, we should also make sure that we refrain from tobacco as it increases our risk of leukemia.
Eat a balanced diet: In this era, we should focus our mindset on eating Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and proteins.
Exercise regularly: Ensuring that we stay fit through physical exercise like, jogging, gymnastics, and other activities, we can stand a chance of preventing leukemia.
