'B' is for...……

BLANKET FLOWER:

This is one of my favourite photos. Originally, I was focusing on the vibrant blanket flower and it wasn't until I was doing the edit that I realized I'd captured a bonus. And that was this bee playing with the petals.

Here are some interesting facts about the stunning Blanket Flower:
It was named after M.Gaillard de Charentonneau, an 18th-century French magistrate.
Blanket flower plants form wiry, branched stems.
Leaves of blanket flower are lanceolate to linear basal leaves, and entire to coarsely toothed.
Blanket flower plant grows to 1-1/2 to 2 ft tall, with bright daisy-like single flowers.
Single color and bi-color blooms are present from buff to red to brown.
Blanket flowers bloom in summer.
There are more than twenty known species of Gaillardia.
Blanket flowers are drought-tolerant.

BOOKWORM:

This image was created by applying digital effects to my original photo. I discovered this cute statue in a local plant shop but she was surrounded by pots and plant paraphernalia which detracted from her beauty. So, being the digital effect lover that I am, I manufactured a beautiful garden for her so that she could continue to read her book in solitude and peace.

BAND:

The surreal lighting behind this band appealed to me, as did the performance of the band playing. They were a welcome feature at Brisbane's popular Eat Street Markets on my first visit a couple of years ago.
There is much to allure visitors to these fabulous markets, but in a nutshell...…. although they are designed to cater for food lovers of every category, all ones senses are satisfied after spending an hour or two there.

The markets are parallel to the Brisbane River, in Macarthur Ave, Hamilton. 180 huge shipping containers have been transformed into gourmet cafes and restaurants and one would be hard pressed to find anyone who left this place hungry; such is their comprehensive selection.

BIBLE.

This image was captured in St. David's Cathedral in Hobart, Tasmania. This magnificent Cathedral is situated at the corner of Mcquarie and Murray Streets in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and this location is in an area which is considered to be the finest Georgian streetscape in Australia. This building is on the register of the National Estate.
When Hobart was declared a city in 1842, the existing St.David’s Church became St. David’s Cathedral. The first foundation stone was laid for the original church February 9th, 1817. The church took a very long time to build but finally on the 9th January 1823, St. David’s church was consecrated.

BIRD:

This inquisitive bird is called a 'Rose Crowned Fruit Dove,' for obvious reasons.
The beautiful Rose Crowned Fruit Dove (Ptillinopus Vergina) are also known as Pink-Capped Fruit Dove or Swainson's Fruit Dove. They are characterized by their grey head and breast, orange belly, white throat, yellow-orange iris and grey-greenish bill. Their crowns are pinkish red with a narrow yellow border.

They build their nests from twigs using a fork in shrubs and trees. They only lay one egg at a time but can produce 2 or 3 clutches per breeding season. These doves are found on coastal ranges of Eastern New South Wales and Qeensland in Australia and from New Castle to Cape York. Their diet consists of fruit from trees, shrubs, vines and palms. Rose crowned fruit doves are locally nomadic birds, following the ripening fruit whilst dispersing seeds via their droppings.
