Crypto up and down, filter for scams

in #altcoins6 years ago

"Crypto is dead! I got rid of my coins! Crypto is scam! It is bubble!"
Or...
"Bulls are back! Fill your bags! Hodl! Lambo! To the moon! It is gem, buy!"

Everyone who has twitter had to read these stuff in last few days many times. It is quite hard to filter what is useful, what is fake, what is scam, especially to newcomers. People with many followers are tweeting paid shits to promote some scam, self claimed experts predict prices, scammers ask for coins... Stop being greedy, stop being too excited, open your eyes. One saying says that "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". If you have doubts, try to explain to yourself, why is it good as you would be small kid, you would be surprised how it can help you to avoid scams.

After some time in crypto I would like to mention few examples. One is Bismuth. It is really hyped on twitter, I have not seen more "it is gem" tweets than in this project. Honestly, I tried to dig into it, ask questions on twitter... what a surprise... nothing. Dead links to existing project build on their platform, no dedicated blog with deeper info, only still the same phrases repeated again and again. Maybe I was not only able to find right source, but I am very disappointed about this project.

Another example is Verge. Verge, former Dogecoin Dark, had quite interesting end of the year. They released "blackpaper", promised awesome Wraith protocol, partnered with John McAfee and skyrocketed to 0.2 USD. Every one knows how it ended, but it caught second breath with Mindgeek partnership. Company which owns for example Pornhub, and some other adult oriented stuff. It should be "exclusive partnership for long time". To be able to get there, there was fundraising when Verge team ask for help its own community. At the end the biggest part was donated by Token Pay (much more expensive XSPEC in my opinion) an mass adoption was expected... Guess what, it did not happen, and today was announced that Tron and ZenCash was added there as payment too. So exclusivity disappeared. Some fuck ups with when Verge was hacked two times in 14 days, false promises, lacking deadlines, bad communication with community does not add much to respect this project.

I am not judging, with Bismuth I might did not search on right place, Verge managed to get partnership with Mindgeek (I would really like to know how it was done, if Verge team was brave enough, or what was Mindgeek reason to ask Verge, because I personally do not understand why they would be interested in them in the state it is) and made first step to bigger adoption.

Let's see what current situation will do with scamcoins or with coins with incompetent devs. Unfortunately there are lot of projects which are here to make creators rich, as most of masternode coins. I wrote about them before, as investment into greed of people more than into technology, and it can really work, even during bear market, but probably not for longer time. Be careful, investigate, do your research and ask questions. That's the only thing how you decrease the chance to get into some scam.

It's better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you'll drift in that direction.
