100% agreed. Lindy West in her memoir Shrill talks a lot about her dealings with internet trolls who respond to her articles and actually was able to meet with one particularly aggressive troll in person. It turned out to be such a strange psychology that makes people do things like that and I think that you are on to something in your assessment - they want to create reaction for their amusement or to satisfy personal feelings of powerlessness.

Yeah, I think you are absolutely right. They need to compensate something they aren't able to achieve in the real world. We shouldn't give them a stage.
