CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE MARSUPIAL KIND..

in #animal8 years ago

At the stroke midnight, last night, I was sitting in the patio trying to figure out the most difficult questions in life. I was stuck on how to make money on STEEMIT when I heard strange noises in the backyard trees. In a hurry I gathered some guns and loaded my AR15 and ventured into the night. If there was an intruder he was not gonna walk out on his own two feet. Nearing the fence I saw movement and 2 eyes. I aimed ( my iPhone ) at it and moved closer. I took the first shot.

Moving in on the culprit from a different angle, I took the second shot

You will have to zoom in a bit to see him.
WE HAVE AN OPOSSUM!!

Obviously I had to research this. Some interesting facts.
Opossum is the only marsupial found north of Mexico.
Original American dwelling was Ohio and Midwest. Due to deforesting it has moved all over America and Ontario. It is now commonly found in urban areas. Your garbage can is not safe.
These are omnivorous creatures, eating stuff from small snakes to insects and vegetables etc. cannabalistic behaviour has been seen in captivity. These dudes have a life span of 2-4 years.
They have adapted their tails for functionality and can grasp and carry objects with their tails. I do the same with mine.

Funny reaction when they feel endangered. It will fake death like Hitler. It will lay on its side, mouth open and eyes open. Tongue hanging out and it secretes a gree fluid from a anus that smells horrible. This behavior is very similar to some of the dorm friends I once had. The animal drops it’s vital signs like a rock while remaining fully conscious.
It can also throw a hissy fit at the other end of the reaction spectrum. Just like your girlfriend you never know what’s coming next.

Hope you enjoyed.

Hey bro - I have sat on my patio contemplating the same thing and still don't have the "one" answer. I'm starting to look at Steemit like I would any other business, and there's one principal that applies to all of them "it takes money to make money". Steemit tends to most reward those who have invested large sums of cash, and occasionally good writers. What I came up with in the short term at least is keep being me and continue to improve my writing, I can only recommend you do the same.

As far as the dam 'possums go - them little bastards are constantly getting in my trash. There's a family of them in my neighborhood that cause chaos wherever they go - they're organized, destructive, and appear to have support from another terrorist organization - the condo/community association. The leader of the gang is like 20 pounds of fury with scars covering his body, missing an eye, and limping from years of battle - pure terror. Unfortunately my neighbors appear to have welcomed them in with open arms - in the end I figure they deserve to be here as much (maybe more) than we do... :)

So beautifully put
