Today our topic is to discuss the general characters of Class Reptalia. So the accepted characters are following as under,

They are mostly terrestrial but some are partially aquatic, they are also called crawlers. Their skin is dry, rough and scaly and have 3 chambered heart except crocodiles that have 4 chambered heart. They visit water to maintain their body temperature because they are cold blooded, They are oviparous like fish and amphibians, they also hibernate and aestivate during winter and summer season respectively, They are tetrapods but some of the species have lost their limbs during evolutionary process. They respire by lungs and have jaws with teeth. Their eggs are large with hard shell made of calcium carbonate. Some species are poisonous like snakes and some lizards, They have double circuit heart and a few species like cobra (Naja naja) shed their old dead skin.
