AnimalPhotography - Furry Animals - Please help me identify these animals?

in #animalphotography7 years ago (edited)

On my first trail run in the imfamous Black River Gorges Nature Reserve in Mauritius, I ran into these aweseome little furry animals. They were the most harmless creatures I have ever seen.

Normally rodent-like creators would run away, but these guys were curious and came towards me to investigate. What a cool addition to my already awesome experience running in Mauritius.

Are they maybe some kind of Hedgehog? Let me know what you think?!

Looks like a cross between hedhehog and pig :D I love them!

Haha agreed... and I'm sure they love you.

Hi, @extremejogging. My best guess would be that it is a tenrec (Family Tenrecidae), but I'm not familiar with these animals at all, so it could also be something else. The tailless tenrec (Tenrec ecaudatus) is pretty common, but I can't see for sure if the guys in your picture has a tail or not.

Wow, excellent guess. I also don't know them but given a quick Google Search, I think you're right. Well done. ;)

Not much stuff in my head to have a right guess. I saw some in our forests: the colour is pretty different but they quite look the same, perhaps they could breed...Photo2892D.jpg

Awesome, also very cute. ;)

In my country they are called hedgehogs, they are spectacular animals

We also have hedgehogs, but they are a lot bigger. I guess you get lots of types and they may be babies.
