Baby Marmotte with Parent and fighting Marmottes in the Alps
My favorite animals to take pictures of are still birds but I also like every kind of Squirrel, Marmott or hamster. A better classification is "Rodent" where also mice an bevers are part of the family. I am always very happy when I see a rodent like a Squirrel. But Marmottes can only be found on places that are a little higher than Linz and the usual places near my home. I always need to drive at least 2 hours to the mountains to get the chance encountering these cute animals. Two years ago in summer I was able to take these pictures of a baby marmott with the mother at the "Grossglockner". I think they are very cute and I always love watching them when running or sitting around in the wild. They prefer a rocky and grassy landscape like you can find numerous up there.

For me it was a nice experience also watching a "baby" marmotte interacting with its parents and not beeing so shy to hide from us. Since we where very carefull in coming close to them they didn't really notice us and stayed very relaxed eventhough they where in companion with their offspring. I was really thankfull for this and tried to make as much pictures as possible and getting closer to them with very much patience.
Then I was also able to witness a fight between two male marmottes that was both imressive and a bit rough. But for me a perfect scene to take some nice pictures. I always like the action pictures much more than the others when you see the animals just relaxing or stitting somewhere. And I really wasn't dissapointed this day.

It was really a pleasure to watch them fighting and enjoying the nice day on the sun. It has rained that day so some of the marmottes still had a wet fur that got dry pretty fast after the sun returned. For me it is always something special when i can watch birds or animals that usually live in the wild and when I can get them to trust me that much that I can get close enough for some marvellouse pictures like these. I am always very thankfull for this, because this is not something you can take for granted and often it is impossible to get as close like in these pictures since they flee from you. I always dream of feeding some hummingbirds with some nectar fro my hand and I hope this dream comes true some day.
