My photo of the day from Antarctica ~ Humpback whale fluke

One of my most beloved cetacean species - The humpback whale. They are one of my favourite animals to interact with in small zodiacs when exploring the Antarctic Peninsula. Well, actually anywhere in the world not just Antarctica.. Whether I am in British Columbia, Australia or Central America. I just feel an attachment to these graceful creatures of the deep. Some sort of connection…

This photo is from near Cuverville Island in the Gerlache Strait a few days ago. The two humpbacks came over to investigate our small zodiac then shortly after passing us they both arched their backs, presented their flukes and then proceeded to descend for a longer/deeper dive to forage for their lunch.

One great thing about Humpback whales is that they can be seen in vast areas of the oceans, and that they display so dramatically.

Writing beautifully your blog
