Oh, Steem, Where have I BEEN?

in #animals6 years ago

It's pretty safe to say that the past four months have been rather tumultuous. I made a HUGE change in my life as a way to combat ongoing anxiety and depression and for the most part, it's worked out. However, it has impacted a lot of areas of my life and so I haven't been able to get to Steemit that much.

What Happened?

As part of my self-imposed crackdown on mental health issues, I sat and took stock of the things that triggered my fits of depression and anxiety. All roads led back to one source - finances, or the lack thereof. So, after 15 years of being self-employed I decided to go and get a job.

I suppose it's the opposite of what many people do; stress and anxiety is brought on by work, and not the other way around. But in my case, trying to make ends meet and the anxiety of trying to save for the future farming dream meant that not enough money was coming in.

The Ideal Job

As it happened, after the hard decision was made, the stars aligned. I visited a public farm park one day as a tourist and enjoyed myself so much I've ended up working there. Not only is the money now coming in but I'm also learning a vast amount of knowledge for the future. I started off with lambing and now work with goats, cows, poultry, horses and more. I've dealt with disease outbreaks, events management, new births and the every day livestock issues with nutrition, health, standstill periods, ear tagging etc. I've even combated my slight fear of pigs and now love them! There was once upon a time that the mere thought of laying down and cuddling a pig would've scared the wits out of me...not now!

The Future

The job hasn't been what I set out to find. In fact, rather than working my ideal 20 hours a week, I generally do almost 50. In addition to still doing some self-employed work, carrying on my own farm business and running my YouTube channel on top, there's not a lot of time for anything else.

BUT....

I would like to carve out some additional time both for Steemit and getting back into my fiction writing.

I. JUST. HAVE. TO. BE. MORE. DISCIPLINED.

So there it is. I'm going to attempt to post more frequently on Steemit again and I look forward to reconnecting!

Thanks for reading,

Geoff

With all you're learning in your new job, you shouldn't have a shortage of things to teach and share with us on Steemit!

That's true. I've learned a lot. I should turn some of it into Steemit posts!

Congrats I finding a job you will enjoy and grow from. Pigs are going to end up being your favorite. It is hard not to since they are one of the few animals that share emotions like humans. Very hard to not get attached to them. Good to see you back.

Thanks. I'm definitely growing from it already. Know SO much more! I'm adoring pigs so have changed my mind and will definitely have some in the future.

Great find on the job the universe obviously giving you some training. Glad you back on form 💯🐒

Universe definitely helped me out this time!

Nice to hear 💯🐒

Many happy returns to steemit. Good to see things are moving in a positive direction.
