THE BROWN RECLUSE SPIDER
Guess what we found crawling on the wall?
Yeah, that'll happen sometimes. Thankfully, we usually find them them before they find us. While I mostly wanted to share some scary photos here, I'll still give you a little information too! I think that you'll learn something.
THE SIX-EYED "FIDDLEBACK"
This GIF that I made should show you why the Brown Recluse is often nicknamed the "fiddleback" spider. There is a marking on the back of the head that resembles a violin, or fiddle. A few other spiders do have similar markings, so it may just be best to avoid any spider that carries around a violin.
One thing that you probably did not know is that the Brown Recluse only has six eyes! Many spiders have eight, but this species only has six. I think that most people get distracted with the dangerous venom that contains hemotoxin and don't worry so much about things like how many eyes they have.
NINE MORE SCARY PHOTOS
Here are a few other photos that I took last night. Thankfully, they are just scary and the photos themselves are not venomous. Enjoy! ;-)
I'm a magnet for Brown Recluse- why I once had one walk all the way from Conway just to bite me! We must have had a sizable colony in our house when I was married to Diane... I had 13 bites at one time (talk about SICK!!!) There is a remedy if you get bit, but you have to apply it as soon as you notice it. Campho Phenique 3-4 times a day on the area of the bite, for maybe 5 days to be safe. It draws out the poison.
Thanks for the tip! We try to stay away from them.
For some reason they would wait until I was asleep and get me then... wise to avoid if possible for sure!
Okay, we will try not to fall asleep!
Does anyone know why there are so many views on this post? In less than half a day it's hit almost 1400. I figure some have to be coming from somewhere other than steemit.
If I see that thing in my house, the last thing I'll be doing is checking out how many eyes it has.
LOL!
thanks for animating the "fiddle" I always have a hard time seeing it.
Yeah, I thought that would help.
Scary stuff!...:)...
Wooh use to see some in my area but not as big as this
They are usually a lot smaller- that's the biggest I've ever seen.
We get a variety of sizes here, with this being on the larger end. Interestingly enough, they can actually live for a couple years.
Totally scary!
I know spiders but I have not taken closer look to its various species. This is an eye opener. Maybe I will begin to look for these features you highlighted here. Thank you @papa-pepper for always being original.
@eurogee
Thanks for checking it out. These ones are pretty dangerous so we try not to play with them.
🙌that's the best thing to do
Nice photography
Success always for you friend @papa-pepper
I upvote and resteem
Thank you for that!
You are welcome mr. @papa-pepper
Friend if you have time, please visit my blog, thanks
WOW. Firstly I will have to commend your bravery with that thing . I hate spiders I must say and simply because, that tiny insects 🕷 you see crawling on the walls of our homes are quite deadly. I can’t imagine touching a death angel that looks so peaceful as spiders , not all spiders are venomous but the species that has venom are as deadly as you could think of a gun.
I wonder what species bit the AMAZING SPIDER MAN. Smiles
Some of the most dangerous and most feared by me are the black widow, taranchula
Interesting, we have Black Widows and a kind of Tarantula here too!
