Gecko "tokek" in my house

in #animals7 years ago

Good morning friends all ..
Today I was startled by reptile-type animals in my bathroom, at that time I wanted to take a bath. When closing the bathroom door, there is a gecko that has a fairly large posture, more or less this gecko has a length of 25centimeter. At that moment I was surprised to see it. But a few moments later when I observed this rare animal made me impressed. Because this gecko is not wild and remains on the back wall of my bathroom door, it seems like he wants to be friends with me. Without waiting, I rushed to take a smartphone camera to document this moment with a simple photo. Here I share for all friends:

Gecko
Quoted in the inscription written by Sarah. R. Megumi; Geckos (Gekko gecko) is the best known and used in Indonesia. In addition there are also types of striped gecko (Gekko vittatus) and flying lizard (Ptychozoon kuhli) which belongs to the family Gekkonidae. According to the Ministry of Forestry (2009), gecko has a variety of local naming, among others, home gecko, geckos (Sunda), teapots, tekek (Java), tokkek (Sulawesi). In English called tokay gecko or tucktoo, while in German is called tokeh.

At home gecko, her body is bluish or greenish, with white and red spots. The lower part of his body is generally white. This species can have a body length of up to 250 mm with a maximum body length of 350 mm (McKay 2006, in Nugrahani, 2011).

In general, all types of gecko have the same morphology that has a short body, width, and fat. Has big toes with claws that curve backwards. Gecko has a sticky leg and is shaped like a sucking pad or scansor that allows the gecko to run on the wall, even on an upside-down and slippery surface (Susilo & Rahmat 2010).

Because it is so sticky, the researchers and researchers are inspired to imitate its stickiness in the manufacture of masking tape or glue. In fact, reported on page nationalgeographic.co.id., Gecko behavior when climbing has inspired a number of scientists to create a tool that allows a man weighing 70 kg climbing glass wall. Really innovative!

Gecko can live at an altitude of 0-850 m asl with required temperature around 32 ° C and humidity 25-35% (Susilo & Grace 2010). Geckos and lizards prefer a dry habitat, especially the lowlands. Most geckos are classified as nocturnal animals and foraging at night. Generally he preys on animals whose body size is smaller, such as crickets, hongkong worms, and Kroto.

This animal will undergo a skin change process once a month. The process of skin change requires considerable energy so that during this process many geckos stay silent and inactive. The process of skin turning begins with the changing body color becomes more whitish and gradually become faded. He has a habit of eating the skin he releases.

There is another unique gecko habit that is when there is dirt in his eyes, he will lick it until clean. Like a lizard, geckos also release the tail or called 'autotomy' when in a state of urgency. It is done to trick the enemy so that he can run fast to avoid bullies or predators. The tail will grow about 3 weeks later and will return to its original shape within 4 months (Susilo & Rahmat 2010).

Geckos are often targeted and used as a traditional medicine ingredient. Based on research and scientific studies, home gecko is used as a healer of itching on the body, eczema, ulceration, panu, kadas, and ringworm. Gecko water extract with amino acid content efficacious as wound healer that is formulated in the form of ointment. In addition, home gecko is also one of the species of gecko that is now widely hunted by people because it is used as a cancer drug.

Nevertheless, do not let humans be too ambitious to hunt for this unique animal. Not to mention the threat that comes from widespread land clearing. Gecko plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. As a predator, it controls the population of insects to avoid explosions. When the population is exhausted then the food chain will be cut off so that the balance of the ecosystem is disrupted.

so my post on this morning, may my home gecko is happy to be at my house
