Carboydrates and their various forms.
Carboydrates and their various forms.
Hi! Guys, How are you? Today we are going to look at the forms of carbohydrates, so without further delay, let`s get started.
i)Monosaccharides.
Monosaccharides are the single sugars. They have 3 to 5 carbons in their composition. e:g, Triose with 3 carbons and Tetrose with 4 carbons and so on. It means single saccharide can play its role as carbohydrate in our bodies. They are sweet in taste and water soluble, On hydrolysis, they yield carbon, hydroxyl and keto or aldo groups.e:g, acylglycerol, ribose and glucose etc.
ii)Oligosaccharides.
Oligosaccharides are composed of 2 to 10 monosaccharides, when two monosaccharides combine, a disaccharide is formed with a glycosidic bond in between them and so on, For example, sucrose, fructorse and maltose are the disaccharides, They are less sweet in taste and less water soluble than monosaccharides , On hydrolysis, they yield 2 to 10 monosaccharides.
iii)Polysaccharides.
When more than 10 saccharides combine to form a polymer with glycosidic bonds they are called polysaccharides, In plants they are starch and cellulose and in animals they are known as gycogen. They are hardly sweet in taste and water soluble. On hydrolysis, they also yield monosaccharides but more in numbers than the hydrolysis of oligosaccharides.
That is it i had to share today with you and hope that you are going to like it because this topic has the potential to refresh your concept about the carbohydrate forms.
You did a nice job bro...thanks for the enlightenment of carbohydrates
