Anime Winter Edicion: Devilman Crybaby Review and Analysis

in #anime7 years ago

Hello my lovely steemians. I know that we are almost almost finishing the winter season of anime, so before it ends I’m going to post some reviews about my favorites so far and I’m going to begin with one of the stars in this season…Devilman Crybaby.

I want to Say that neither I or anyone in general, didn’t expect that Netflix released something good I mean we are talking about the corporation that made that awful movie about Dead Note but NO ONE was expecting this wonderful piece of art called Devilman Crybaby. The series is based on Go Nagai’s manga Devilman. It was directed by Masaki Yuasa and written by Ichiro Okouchi, and premiered on January 5, 2018 on Netflix as an original series.

Is the story of Akira, a common teenager who transform in a Demon because of a wild party he attend with Ryo, his best friend. Akira is possessed by The Demon by the name of Amon, but his heart is still human so he calls himself a Devilman. Something important about this anime is that the original manga inspired some really big animes like Evangelion and Berserk; both are like canons anime or cult anime for those who know what I’m talking about.

I say that because we can see a lot of religion taking place in the anime, like the Apocalypsis, Satan (who is Ryo himself), the crucifixion and even the bible. I knew the Ryo was Satan in the 6 or 7 episode because of his action about war, I was confused and thought he was God for all the white and the way he just stares at the city by his apartment, he stared from upside just like God but THEN we can see the 666 on his door, he can see the way he do anything to create a war against the human race. Other thing that makes him the devil is that Satan was called “the most beautiful angel” and we can see that in Ryo, he is beautiful, he looks pure. I really like the way they didn't use red for him, they use white and black for Akira.

Let’s talk about Akira. I see Akira like Jesus Christ because he stand for the humans and love them, he just try to avoid the war but the government didn’t wanted because he was a Demon… he was different, he does things that humans can’t. But he always says that he is not a demon, he got a human heart.

We can see a scene from the bible in one of the episodes. The one when Akira defends the person’s cruxificated behind him when the others just throw rock at them. Akira says to kill him but no to them and he stand there receiving all kinds of objects the people throw at him and then the kids stops and hugs Akira, suddenly the adults stops too and embraces him. Akira forgives them just like Jesus did with his followers.Btw there were 7 persons, we know 7 its a important number in the catholic religion and it is a reference to Jesus.

Then we got the war when Ryo reveal his true body and He fought with Akira. We can see clear the way Devilman Crybaby inspired Evangelion, all the bloody water, the crosses, the earth desolated and we found death around it. Its the humans with the Devimal againts the demons, just like the human with the Evas againts the Angels in Evangelion. We got Shingi and we got Akira two teenagers who was introduced in a world they didnt ask for, Shingi in the Evan and Akira in Amon.

We got Miki Makimura the lover of Akira, the perfect girl. All i can say is that I found cute that her both bestfriend, Akira and Miko, died protecting her, they both did the impossible to protect her, to protect a human but just like the entire human race, she dies. I think she was somehow a representation of planet earth, she was pure and good, the humans and the no humans tried to save her, she accept Akira without doubting

To finish my analysis I want to talk about the perfect way the worked every character, we all can feel connected to one of them. My favorite one was Miko, her evolution was beautiful. I really liked the way they introduce you the raw society problems with the boy’s crew and their song in every episode. They represent the human, the society and the real issues in our real world.

It’s crazy to see how everything was planned by Ryo even from the beginning. He created the war by sacrifying Akira to become Amon. It was written even when Ryo was reborn in earth like a human.

The anime show you that, maybe, the demons are the humans, we destroy ourselves and our planet, the media just like Ryo did controls our ideas, our action, the media decide What is good and what is bad. I really love this anime; Netflix did well and hope they keep in this way. Please comment your thoughts about the series or anything that I missed in my analysis
