I'm not the one to ask about Boogiepop, but from what I've gathered, the previous anime, Phantom, is a side-story while this one is the main story. Phantom is optional if you want the story, but it probably captures the idea of the source material better.
I see, so I think I can go at it and maybe go for the side story some other time, thanks.
