Wisdom of the apostle Paul: But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. Romans 2:8

The Epistle to the Romans is perhaps the most important epistle written by Paul. In it, the apostle of the Gentiles elaborated on the doctrine of justification by faith, a very important and delicate issue because its interpretation has even led to a schism within Christianity itself with Luther. But before presenting this doctrine, Paul expressed in his epistle his desire to visit the Christian community that existed in the imperial capital, a desire that was fulfilled when he was arrested in the city of Jerusalem and taken to Rome to be tried by the emperor.
And Paul began his letter by explaining that humanity had lost its relationship with God and that sin was the common currency among men; with wisdom, and the path of mercy (compassion, kindness, benevolence ) that comes from divine science, reduced to a mere intellectual exercise. The apostle Paul was not a fool and knew clearly that the Roman Empire was not exactly a land of wise and sensible men at that time, crimes and murders were commonplace, as happened with the persecution of the Church after the miracle of Pentecost.
Perhaps with this presentation of things, the letter seems to be a pessimistic text, but this description that Paul gives of the situation of society is the preparation to explain how Christ is the salvation of men. That is why Paul wrote about the consequences that this spiritual situation generated in his time: "God's anger is revealed from heaven against every ungodly and immoral thing people do as they try to suppress the truth by their immoral living" Romans 1:18.
But Paul also reminded to the members of the church in Rome in his letter that just as there was a curse, there was also a blessing for those who sought the right path. This is why Paul emphasized the consequences of living against God's law: "But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness" Romans 2:8. Paul, in his wisdom, explained that not all was lost, and that Jesus, with his example and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, opened the way to the salvation of humanity through faith.
