Holy Spirit power: The apostles often met together and prayed with a single purpose in mind. Acts 1:14
The Book of Acts begins its account by saying that Jesus, once resurrected, appeared to the disciples and gave them the final teachings about the Kingdom of God, a special instruction reserved only for them, because the power of the holy spirit was yet to be manifested.
The disciples were still rational men and had difficulty understanding to everything related with the Lord and the spiritual realities, and this was so to such an extent that the Book of Acts relates that some disciples thought that the Lord was about to physically restore the Kingdom of Israel as in the times of King David and Solomon, and the Lord was totally against this because a new Israel according to the Spirit had to be born, when Jesus was tempted by the Evil One in the desert and was offered to him all the kingdoms of the earth, the Lord rejected this.
Jesus was insistent, the disciples had to become spiritual men, or in other words, persons gifted with the essence of wisdom, and for that, they had to receive a new birth, a birth in the spirit: "John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit a few days from now" Acts 1:5. Everything sounded incredible to the disciples who, astonished, watched the Lord ascend and bid them farewell on his last visit, the times of the Father and the Holy Spirit were a complete mystery.
But what the Book of Acts also relates is that the disciples did not remain idle, but rather prepared themselves as much as possible for what was to happen, and so it is recounted: "The apostles often met together and prayed with a single purpose in mind. The women and Mary the mother of Jesus would meet with them, and so would his brothers" Acts 1:14. Although the disciples were not filled with the Holy Spirit, they were filled with the fear of God and therefore prayed incessantly to God together. Before descending, the Holy Spirit was testing the witnesses of Jesus' life.
And all this teaching for Christians has a meaning: the Kingdom of God is progressive, gradual, and this dominion or rule of the divine excellencies can only manifest itself as that hidden treasure, as was the case of the disciples, when people have proven themselves worthy of the wisdom from above.
