5 Most Common Abdominal Surgical Diseases

in #appendectomy6 years ago (edited)

In this series, I'll be posting a list of the most common 5 abdominal diseases which require a surgical procedure.
1- appendectomy:
The most common abdominal surgical operation in which the appendix should be removed due to acute or chronic inflammation, or perforation
Appendectomy could be done by one of 2 ways.
The first way is traditional surgery, in which the appendix is removed by a dissection of the abdominal wall, or making an opening in the abdominal wall through McBurney's point. Traditional appendectomy via median dissection can be used to do all cases of appendectomy, but it's favourite in cases of appendix perforation where the contents of the appendix are spilled into the abdominal cavity, so the surgeon can clean and disinfect the cavity after removing the appendix.
The second way is Laproscopic Appendectomy, which is done by creating 3-4 minimal openings through designated locations on the wall or the abdomen, then inserting scopes and surgical instruments (such as pences) through these openings. Laproscopic Appendectomy is used only in cases of inflammation of the appendix and only after ruling out perforation.
These were the brief everybody-should-know information, I hope you liked it.

That's helpfull
But if you can give us symptoms please

Of course!, The major symptom is abdominal pain in the right inguinal hole, which is at the site of McBurney's point
One special thing about this pain is that it becomes super intense after pushing the spot and suddenly releasing it.
And just like all other inflammatory diseases, appendicitis is accompanied by general symptoms such as nausea, fever and fatigue.
You can add that all appendicitis patients cannot tolerate the pain and come immediately to the hospital, and the first procedure a doctor has to do is confirming or ruling out appendicitis.
Such case is called "Acute Surgical Abdomen"

Dr. I have a question for you
Can intestinal endoscopy be able to detect all stomach problems??

Hello my friend,
First of all I need to clear a common misunderstanding, a Stomach is NOT the whole abdomen, the stomach is at the higher left quadrant of the abdomen, therefore an intestinal endoscopy cannot diagnose the diseases of the stomach.
After clearing the misunderstanding let's rephrase your question to "is intestinal endoscopy able to detect all Abdominal problems?"
And the answer for that is NO. You cannot see liver, spleen, kidneys and other abdominal organs via intestinal endoscopy, thus you can only detect problems which are located inside of the gastriointestinal tract without reaching the duodenum.
Thank you for your important question, and I hope my answer satisfied you.

Thank you for this useful answer

Now I just know how appendectomy is done Thank you for the information,
