Shooting with Neena in an abandoned barn...in the dark

Occasionally I dabble in artistic model photography and like to combine it with stuff I have learned or worked out being a lightpainter. So when you manage to persuade a model to visit an abandoned barn in the dark in the middle of nowhere then I'll happily bring along a large tub of smoke pellets and gelled flashguns!

For this shot I used a piece of black card on the Godox strobe to spilt the light and gelled one side with a blue gel so that when you throw a white smoke pellet in to the mix, the smoke turns blue:

Or you can place a coloured gel on either side of the Godox strobe and get a mix like this:

Or you can ask the model to hold burning smoke pellets in her fingers and wave her arms furiously up and down to create this effect:

For these shots I used a Godox AD200 at the rear of the frame with a Yongnuo YN560 Mk3 flashgun with a softbox on the model's left, both triggered at the same time to freeze Neena.

I gotta say that Neena is one the best models I ever worked with and is such a good sport especially considering she was quite happy to hold something potentially dangerous between her fingers!
