Moses-Mabhida-Stadion in Durban (Südafrika)

Das Moses-Mabhida-Stadion ist ein Fußballstadion in der südafrikanischen Stadt Durban. Das Stadion hatte eine Gesamtkapazität von rund 70.000 Zuschauern und war damit die zweitgrößte der fünf neu gebauten Fußballarenen der Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2010 in Südafrika. Nach der WM 2010 wurde die Kapazität auf 56.000 Zuschauer reduziert. Das Stadion ist eines von drei Stadien, das von dem Hamburger Architektenbüro Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp) für die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2010 entworfen wurde. Das Stadion, scherzhaft „fleischfressende Blume“ genannt, gilt nun als Wahrzeichen von Durban. Mit bereits beim Bau eingeplanten Attraktionen wie Bungeespringen und dem „Skycar“, einer Bahn, die zu einer Aussichtsplattform auf dem Träger fährt, versucht man, die jährlichen Millionenverluste nach der WM zu dämpfen.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium is a football stadium in the South African city of Durban. The stadium had a total capacity of around 70,000 spectators, making it the second largest of the five newly built football arenas of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. After the 2010 World Cup, the capacity was reduced to 56,000 spectators. The stadium is one of three stadiums designed by the Hamburg architects Gerkan, Marg and Partner (gmp) for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium, jokingly called "carnivorous flower", is now considered the landmark of Durban. With attractions already planned during construction, such as bungee jumping and the "Skycar", a train that runs to an observation platform on the carrier, attempts are made to dampen the annual loss of millions after the World Cup.
