70's Cladding - @juliank #photocontest
How times change. This pebble dashed concrete cladding was all the rage in the 70's but thankfully has been consigned to history....I hope!
Before the advent of modern lightweight building cladding, we had simple concrete panels bolted to a steel framework to give a cheap and easy construction method. Sealants were used between panels to bond them and make them waterproof.
This was a standard way for municipal buildings to be built in the austere and depressed 70's but god was the architecture as bleak and boring as the times.
We've moved on since these prefabricated times, but there are still many examples left around the UK.
This particular panel is part of Pontefract Library.
Just an curio and interesting texture!
