BEASTLY TALES

THE LUMBER JACK

We work all day, and sleep all night,
We’re lumber jacks and that’s alright.
We work in the forest far from the crowd,
Our work is noisy, in fact quite loud,
We wear funny hats that cover our ears,
And after a day’s work, we love our beers.
We’re lumber jacks and that’s O.K.,
We sleep all night and work all day,
And, in fact, we don’t get much pay.

Otto Voodenverk was a lumber jack in Canada,
Truth be known, he was a lazy galah,
He was a lumber jack and that’s O.K.,
Lazy as he was, he soon had a sobriquet.
His nickname was “Iron Lung”,
And it from interesting origins sprung.
Voodenverk was his Dutch origin name,
“In an iron lung”, was added as a word game.

Otto was given a new chain saw.
It was a tool that he did adore.
As a lazy person, it saved him work,
Easy felling trees for an “Iron Lung” jerk.
He fuelled it up, and revved it loud,
And sized up a Conifer standing proud.
He hadn’t counted on the pine’s soft wood.
It sliced through it so much faster,
And, in no time, resulted in disaster.
The pine tree fell towards Otto’s head,
A glancing blow left a lump very red.
“Iron Lungs gone to sleep on the job”,
Said his work mates, “yes he’s a lazy slob.”
“If, with a chainsaw, he goes to sleep”,
“We will, next time, give him an axe,”
“So he has a reason to lie down and relax.”
Otto was lying there, definitely out cold,
If he wasn’t more careful, he’d not grow old.
As the team began to knock off,
His work mates looked and began to scoff.
“We won’t wake him just because it’s dark”
“Let him sleep in the woods just for a lark!”

Sort:

the hard work of the lumberjack results in the death of the trees and in the death of the lumberjack, who dies first?

As usual an indepth comment. Thank you.
