Modular regular icosahedron origami and variants

Origami balls in different colors:

I prepared quite a number of paper strips(1:16). As same as last time, I pre-folded them into several isosceles right triangles.IMG_8460.jpg

In the photos, we can see that one starry icosahedron is made from 6 strips. This requires three steps:

  1. Construct a star with five strips.
  2. Wrap it around with the 6th one.
  3. Finished the unit by meeting the edges together.

If we repeat the second step, we'll get a straight long origami tube.

IMG_8459.jpgThe folding is actually very flexible. I manage to construct a torus, too! My first attempt is to make 8 units then combine them with tiny pieces of papers. Turned out to be a little crappy.
For the second try, I made a C shape in "one piece" and I connect the ends with papers. Looks better :)IMG_8463.JPG

There were some remaining paper strips. So I thought: Why not flip the model inside out?
