A mother's gift- Graphite pencil portrait

"A Mother's treasure is her daughter"

It was mother's day when my ex-manager in jollibee message me in facebook and requested to draw her daughter. I really had an hesitation because Bacolod if very far from Cebu and its too expensive in delivery of the artwork with frame. But in her request, I realized that her request has a deep reason, it was a love to her daughter. I saw her sacrifices and love to the only angel in her life. To make my ex-manager happy in Mothers Day, I draw her daughter and bought a frame so that it will look like formal. I did not think the value of money she offered to me as her pay to my artwork, what am I thinking for is her happiness if she will receive the artwork and gave it to his only daughter. To make others happy because of my art is also my happiness.

Today I would like to share to everyone my graphite pencil portrait of the daughter of a manager in Jollibee. I am not yet a professional artist, but just see my process on how I do it even if it is not that really amazing or perfect artwork. Learn on my process and I hope you will enjoy and get some small learning's from me :)

on the 1st process, I put some diagonals and grid lines as my guide and sketch the face of the baby using pencil thru my reference picture in cellphone.

after the sketching of the face, next step is draw and shade the eyes and also the nose using Staedtler Graphite Pencil 8B and 6B.

next step, shade her face and erase some grid lines

next step, I shade the shoulders and the dress of the baby just like the shadings on the reference photo

then I put shading at the back of the subject using 1st the 6B graphite pencil

next step, to make the subject more clear and looks like you can touch her face or body, I darken the background shade

Last step, I put the 8x10 inches portrait in a 11x14 inches size frame.

I draw it with a cheap talent fee because I'm not yet a professional in arts,the most important is, I can make my client happy of what I made for them, maybe it is because of cheap talent fee or it is because of the wholehearted artwork from mine.
