Hi Steemit family!

If you thought that VHS or audio cassettes were missing from our current scene, today I'll show you the opposite, I'll show you the incredible art made by a young American who is dedicated to portraying different artistic personalities only with cassettes, that technology that accompanied us so much for more than 20 years last century. Meet Erika Simmons.

Erika Iris Simmons makes art a task of reconstruction. Her work arises from random objects that anyone could find. With them she carries out her works, using materials that are uncommon in art and with a surprising result. He finds his inspiration in the icons of music and cinema, which he represents in such an original way.

Iris Simmons is an artist living in Princeton in the United States whose concern to create something different with the use of reused objects has led her to exhibit in various art galleries. Her creations, generally portraits, impress by their details, especially if we consider the technique used, hence her genius of having used one of the main consumer objects of the last century, today considered literally garbage.

Simmons uses the forgotten cassette tapes or film rolls to create his portraits. His inspiration goes hand in hand with the icons of cinema or music and he makes those illustrations that we know so well today. The artist herself tells that she was inspired by being a waitress at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, soaking up the atmosphere of the place. Her first portrait was that of Jimi Hendrix, which we can see below and which is the clearest example of the influence of music on the artist.

Her portraits generally begin with a basic outline, focusing primarily on the details of the face. After this, she begins the task of filling in the tape, gluing it flat, folding it or cutting it according to the needs of the work.

His work is an example of reuse turned into art. The example that a good idea only needs someone to carry it out to be successful. Erika Iris Simmons started creating out of a simple desire to create, but people liked her work and started selling it.

It's interesting how some artists use garbage to recycle and turn those objects into art, it seems to me a very subversive way of making art, many artists are limited by certain materials when making their composition, to such an extent that if that material were to disappear then their art would disappear.

source

Art became his work, dedicating all his time to it, although at present he prefers only to work on the projects that really interest him. Her workshop is undoubtedly a place full of disparate objects, but for this artist, they are objects full of possibilities.

source

The creations of Simmons could be united to the tendency of creating to work of art with recycled materials. Making Waste Art. It is a movement that does not seek in art the simple pleasure of creating something beautiful, it also seeks the sustainability of the planet. This movement comes to life in this age where global pollution has reached the limits of what is desired, while industry does not care but to do business with plastic, glass or any material that is profitable to produce it, after all, it is about money.
