The Art of Sumi-e // A fish is talking art #9
In November I discovered a video demonstrating the art of sumi-e (=ink wash painting in japanese) and I was intrigued by the one stroke dragons that are created with only ONE stroke (hence the title). Sumi-e artists have special calligraphy brushes for that practice but its not only about the equipment. The one stroke painting requires the artist to have a perfectly still mind with total intention and attention in the present moment. (Honshin)
This is my attempt at creating something that looks at least somewhat like the real sumi-e dragon:

I used regular brushes and acrylic paint. It was my first acrylic painting in years.
Its not even close to what sumi-e artists achieve. LOOK at THIS:

aww danke, ich bin noch weit davon entfernt, das so gut hinzukriegen wie die professionellen, aber jeder muss irgendwo anfangen :D

But the dragon is also fine. :D
Depends on how much you need. And also depending on what you want to draw with it.
If it is going to be another beautiful plant with anything else I would spend more. ^^
