The girl with amber beads

A portrait
Today, I'm sharing with you a little study drawn in oil pastel titled 'The girl with amber beads'. The figure has an elongated neck and face with curved shoulders, long blue hair cascades down her back. She glances to the side as a figure approaches from behind her, stepping out from the shadows.
The drawing process
A quick pencil sketch first, then layers of oil pastel applied on to the paper. The skin tones are made from a combination of yellow, white and blue oil pastel.

The background is built up with layers of red, pink, blue and black oil pastels. Areas of oil pastel are scraped back to reveal lines of colour beneath the darker layers of pastel.

Amber is a precious stone in my country. Beautifully done!
I love what you've done here! This is a really awesome painting with a lot of personality! Great job :)
Thanks you, glad you like it @naydenova!
My pleasure! :)
The colors! Thank you.
This is beautiful!! There are many parents I know who give their babies Amber necklaces because it's supposed to help with tooth pain. I wonder if our girl looks so serious for a similar reason.
I'd heard that too, maybe she does have tooth ache!
It's funny how we can relate almost anything to our own lived experiences.
I like her hair also the painting is so colourful, well done!!!
Is it easy to work with pastel?
I tried the dry pastry I have never been successful in it.
I wonder that. and you have created a wonderful work of art by bringing wonderful colors to the occasion.
congratulations. I really like !
I have dry pastels, but they are far from being a favourite medium of mine. I don't really like the texture, but I am going to try this year to use them a little more.
Oil pastels I like more because of the bold colours, and the techniques you can use with them. This was quite a small piece -A5, and I prefer usually to work much bigger than that with oil pastels.
nice panting.
