New Work in Progress - Queen Bilbo I
I've got a few funky animal portraits in mind for this cat... and a rare double-request for me to do a similar piece of an otter with a musical instrument. I'm hoping to attract the pet portrait market to me. I know it's saturated, but the whimsical leans I put on my portraits is still a growing trend, I think.
Well, at least I'll get better at fine details like fur, regardless of market success.
At first, I was going to use reference material from bits and pieces of a TV show called Reign, which Mikey worked in quite often, in the background, as a guard to Mary, Queen of Scots. I thought it would be cute to bring back that part of his life. As I was working on it yesterday, though, I just couldn't get the neckline right. Bilbo's head looked like a tiny rocket shooting out of her dress. Then I realized I could circumnavigate that problem with a nice Elizabethan ruff. I think Bilbo is more like Queen Elizabeth I, anyway. Mostly regally poised, with frequent spurts of mania.
At some point, I think there's going to be yet another portrait of her vaping. That's what the kids are doing these days.
I may do a poll at some point to see what other fun portraits of this cat people would like to see.

I don't know why but the idea of an otter in similar attire and playing a musical instrument just strikes me as PERFECTION. I love this frocked cat (frock? is that what the thing is called? I just don't give enough frocks to google it I suppose), I totally think you could stake out a corner of the pet portrait market with awesomesauce like this.
Lol! You have to save those frocks. There are only a finite number you can give in a day. ;)
I might have to make more than one otter, to satisfy these otter demands. A frocked, and a non-frocked at the very least.
Thanks, @carlgnash! :D

I wish she could be friends with my Count Dogius but i guess she will keep a distance, lol. Beautiful artwork, i made a lot of animalistic portraits myself and tried a little to get in the pet market i wish you better luck:)
Well, Greece isn't close, but I think you can rest assured that the handsome count Dogius would not be at fault for Queen Bilbo's reticence for friendship. She's a little bit neurotic, you see.
You did a beautiful job. I think it's probably a bit of a difficult market to get a foothold in, because there are so many of us who want a piece of it. I hope if you're not still pursuing that corner, that you're finding (or better yet, have found) your own niche. Thank you so much for your well-wishing! :)
You are very welcome, no i do not persue it. It was some time ago and i only tried it here at Greece with friends who had pets. Maybe it was not the right time, i dont know, but i still believe it is a good market:)
P.S. I have a cat so i know from first hand what you mean.hahaha
Oh, I see! It was much more personal. That's really nice. If the right time comes for you, you'll make many happy pet owners. :)
And I know, right? So much personality in such small, frenetic spaces.
Bilbo really looks awesome as a royalty Hahahahaha! I love this, Rachel :D I look forward to seeing this completed :D
And that neckruff is such a good workaround the problem, too :D
Bilbo is a very elegant queen! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece of art!
Thank you so much! I just finished it, so I'll be sharing it tomorrow! :D
Oh, good! Are you pleased with how it turned out?
