Art - RAGING ORC WARRIOR - (step by step)

in #art6 years ago

The look in his eye(s) told me his rage was reaching the boiling point...

Hello people!

Drew something that took a bit of time, like 3 days or so, stepped into the fourth one too, I present you one raging orc:

Rage for Honor - Bojan Glisic.jpg

TEARS FOR BLOOD,RAGE FOR HONOR

That's how I named this particular illustration, imagined a war thorn battling orc that just had enough, not your regular brute, just that one that tried to look away until one point in time when he could not watch anymore and had to do something.

About the art:

I really wanted to show anger and scars from the battlefield here, went into details for a few days, worked on war paint ideas, bones, muscles, facial structure, expression, armor, imagined rocks flying around, smoke in the background.

I spent time with Photoshop, software that I used to make this one come true, used drawing pad to put it all into work and gave myself a time to figure things out, make pauses, think about color, shadows, effects, lines.

I am having a bit of a hard time at the moment, cooking from the fridge, whatever I can find since I quit the regular job because it took a lot of hits at my health and social life. Now, it's a bit of a struggle, but the work on improving myself in art will not stop man, it will not stop. So it's kinda representation of my will power at the moment, I guess :D

Here is the process:

03.jpg

The lines, sketches, figuring it out. Leaving it for the next day, then stepping back in. If you don't commit yourself there won't be any results, so I pushed this one, it was a proof to myself too. I was satisfied with the lines after many hours that gave back the reward!

04.jpg

Added a basic color here, so I can add more color on top of that with a base understanding of where it leads since green takes the biggest part of the illustration, it was logical to put it on first.

05.jpg

Basic color - (not the base color like the previous one). Here I added everything on top of that green and tryed to give it a little sense of life, movement and effectiveness of the emotion.

06.jpg

Neck and Back! It is such a big part of this piece, so my shadow work was focused on pointing out that the head is in front of everything else. Started doing regular shadowing too.

Working to get the complete shadows that represent the realness of this composure, working good with the life of drawing. After shadows I jumped in with the lights, and pinpointed some really important parts that stick out, it also adds to the whole picture. Some minor lighting work and making those colors lively.

Rage for Honor - Bojan Glisic.jpg

Adding those background effects, working with the color, adding rage to the drawing, adding rocks flying around and minor eye correction, there were some line cleanups here too, and shadow and lighting work on those pebbles in the air. Finished it here and was really happy with the outcome!

Alright, hope it was fun, maybe educational or helpful, thank you for your time!

Sometimes is better to quit a job and struggle with money than let your health and social life suffer. There are so many people doing what they do just for money (I was like this as well) but when you realize you don't love your job and you feel bad every morning walking to the office, then it's the time to consider changes. I am sure that you will find something that you love OR that you will become a famous artist :) Or maybe becoming a famous artist is what you really want :)

I totally understand the rage of this orc. He is missing one eye, one tooth, he has scars everywhere so he is simply fed up. But I think that what he really needs is a nice long hug :)

You captured his emotions greatly. The rage is real and I like the rocks flying everywhere around him. I actually feel a little bit sorry for him :)

Thank you for sharing! It was great to see your progress photos too!

I agree, it was really like that, no social life at all, depression, health issues, payment was fine but, there were a lot of consequences ad I did not really like the job, all night shifts, like 5-6 days in a row. The day was stolen so there was not that morning feeling, and one free day was used to sleep. Hardly had the chance to illustrate. Thank you so much for your inspiring words, means a lot!

Haha yeah, I imagined him like that too, in need of a hug and rest from all the battle, he just snapped but inside is still a kind soul.

Have a great great day!

Got damn! that's a good line job. Usually, the line to be used isn't usually taken into account, since it's only treated as the outline and nothing else, without thinking that it's a valuable resource and that through the line many things can be transmited.

Thank you! I really, really appreciate the comment like this! I love that style, it's kinda chaotic and all, but it really has to be planned trough and pulled off, really glad you dig the lines here!

I was looking into his eye, it's like he's looking back at me, and I can see deep into his soul. I feel loke he's a nice fella from deep within, something just brought out the rage in him.

I love the step by step, not that I'm an artist - I can't even draw decent stick people for an image. Lol. But seeing your step by step, you let people like me appreciate a drawing like this even more. ❤❤❤

Thank you so much! Really glad you noticed the eye, in the beginning it was not like that, like in the final picture. And I imagined him as a kid soul, so changes were made to make that eye an important part of the picture. Really glad you like the process! <3

You certainly succeeded in showing the anger and I like how he lost part of his a tooth. The goblin(?) kinda reminds me of Warcraft series.

Wish to get a drawing pad for myself one day so I can directly draw on computer.

Thank you! Really glad you like it! My advice is to find someone that owns a drawing pad and try it first, many people do not like the approach, it either works or not. If it does not work than scanning art and making digital adjustments does the job nice :D

Thanks for the advice.

Howdy from Texas theartofrez! hey that Orc looks like he could rip your head off and eat it like a cherry! wow, a total explosion of insane rage is what I see, I think you nailed it and I'm glad you stuck with it and persevered!
This is a great post and a well deserved curie vote. Do you specialize in mythological creatures?

Thank you so much!!! Oh yeah, love them, really inspiring to illustrate :D
