Writing Prompt Art Contest #11

in #art7 years ago

Original Picture Source

As mentioned a few days ago, I, @GMuxx, am moving my art and writing contests to The Writers' Block in order to benefit the community more. Having discussed the matter with the leadership team we have decided to stick to the current format, in that there will first be an art contest which will produce a piece to use as a story prompt for the writing phase.

The art portion will run for a week and the writing for two weeks: we encourage entrants to submit their written work to our editing team at The Writers' Block to give their stories that extra little polish before publishing on Steem, and we need to give the editors time to do so. We will then take a week to judge the written submissions. These cycles will therefore be four weeks each.

There will be three judges for each cycle, judging both the art and then the writing. For each cycle there will be different teams of judges -- each with different tastes in art and writing -- to give everyone a chance to enter. Obviously if a member of The Writers’ Block is entering the contest, they won't be a judge for that cycle. Everyone is welcome to enter, not just The Writers' Block members.

Behind the scenes the judges will award points to their favourite submissions in order to reach a consensus on who wins.

For the art contest, there will be one winner who will receive 5 Steem and will get mentioned by all of the entrants to the writing portion. The writing contest will produce a first, second, and third place who will win 10, 5 and 2 Steem respectively -- plus any extra donations made to the contest fund. Finalists in both contests will also get a 100% upvote on their submissions from The Writers' Block account and trail.

Entrants can make only one submission per contest. Entrants are encouraged to support other entries through upvotes and resteems to maximise their networking opportunities, although this is NOT MANDATORY and will not factor into the judging process.

Income generated by these contest posts will maintain the prize fund for subsequent competitions and help grow the account, enabling it to reward more quality writing.

Onto the Contest

During this cycle your judges will be @therosepatch, @tinypaleokitchen and @negativer.

@therosepatch enjoys writing emotional stories, as well as poems inspired by her daughter. She is also a self-proclaimed fantasy nerd and loves stuff that has a magical or fantastical flair to it. That said, she is open to pretty much anything that shouts "there must be a story behind this."

As an artist, @tinypaleokitchen is a minimalist, with a love of whitespace and interesting compositions that draw the eye onward. However, being a minimalist doesn't mean she only appreciates minimalism. She tends to mostly look for pieces that not only have been well thought-out and planned, but that possess something that evokes either emotion or curiosity.

@negativer dabbles in amateur photography, and enjoys art that is a bit darker, or work that can be seen as both uplifting and somber at the same time. Favorite artists include H.R. Giger, Zdzislaw Beksinski, and John Kenn Mortensen.

The art portion of the contest is looking for a piece to be used as a story prompt for the writing competition. Any form of art is acceptable, either traditional or digital work. Photographs are also accepted BUT they should be 100% your own work. The art does not necessarily have to have been produced specifically for this contest, but it should be something that authors will each see something different in. To enter submit either a picture in the replies below, or a link to your post containing your art or photograph. One entry only please.

There will be one winner who will receive 5 Steem.

This contest closes at 23:59 UTC, April 18th and the writing contest, using the art prompt, will be announced within a few days of closing.

Hello, this is my entry for the art part of the contest. I drew this for a prior contest and I like how it looked at the end.

Wow.
Just realized only three of these folks are still alive.

I did not take this picture, but I am in it.

Alright cool, I'm in as a writer (been waiting for this contest to come back around). Artists...please go dark! (it's the place in which to see the light ;)

The Writer's Block has had some amazing contests and this is one of them! While I don't currently have time to do more than lurk, this idea is really fun and it's very interesting to see the art coming in.

Good afternoon, here is the work of my daughter https://steemit.com/art/@barski/awakening-of-chamomile

Excellent idea, I think it's a very motivating contest, especially because of the theme of allowing us to revise the written work and improve it.

Ok, here is my entry. A picture I took myself, in China almost two years ago.
