Casting spells with this afternoon sketch

in #art7 years ago (edited)

I woke up this morning and told myself that sketching this afternoon would be a fantastic idea. I felt motivated after seeing @chrsart's Steemit Gets Drawn #02, and was surprised to see that it was me! I was extremely flattered. It made me think of @steemitadventure who does some wonderful illustrations of steemit users in the form of trading cards! It's so great to see the community coming together to create amazing art!

I feel inspired by all the artists that I've been lucky enough to discover and I'm thrilled to grow alongside you!

I've been sketched before in the past.

The image on the left was concept art for a comic book idea by my friend Blong. Sadly, it never took off because of time restraints and a handful of excuses. The right imagine was done for fun by @kommienezuspadt. He's hard to keep up with since he overflows with talent! Can you see the connection between both images?

Once I got my anime fix in for the day, I played the Nightlife album by Phantogram. I let my hand loosen and let the lines slowly build. If I'm able to get a good expression going then I have little worries.

I'm starting to feel more confident about drawing fingers. I tested my skills in my first attempt at ink studies. The pencil tools are easier to control and I'm not too worried about going back and erasing lines. I did get a slight headache after finishing them. I'm not too sure if it was from my unbroken concentration or dehydration. I felt really good about stopping right here and I'm still open to adding color in on another day.

Is she a work in progress or beautifully incomplete?

Thanks for checking out this sketch! 🦊

You have done an amazing work until now ,i think she is beautifully incomplete but still waiting to see the finish of the work Keep it up @vermillionfox

Thanks! Yeah, I'll probably do a separate layer for color.

Great post , thank you so much for sharing

Thanks for stopping by!

I really dig that hand, so elegant looking!

Interesting how as artists we feel about our own work because I know how hard it is to draw good hands and yours always looked really good to me. Glad you are feeling more confident with em cause IMO you should be lol

Since you asked that question my instinct says beautifully incomplete, maybe a type of picture you revisit at a later date for inspiration? but if you are "feeling it" then I say finish it off!!

Thanks for the shoutout! and btw if you feel like it you can just take the s off end of my name so its a link :)

Yeah, it's never good enough because we're so critical on ourselves. This is why it's so important for artists to encourage one another! Thanks for calling my hands elegant, I'm just happy that I'm not drawing feet! Oh and I've edited your name. Blame the autocorrect for the 's'!

awesome work ..

Wow! That illustration of you in the kimono is so good!

I almost always don't go back to my unfinished works, but that's because I mostly deal with traditional drawings. However, once I transfer my artwork to be colored, I find myself always going back to it. So I guess, if it's digital- I think you can always go back to it when you've thought of something that you can add on.

P.S. Thanks for mentioning me :) I feel honored.

Yeah, that's the great thing about digital. I'd have a stack of papers collecting dust when I was only using traditional media. Now I'm not that stressed about picking up an old piece!

The sketch itself is great as it is IMHO. Like you say upthread you're thinking of adding colors to the background .... the figure could live in many different backgrounds :)

True!! I might just leave her and her story to the imagination.
